We are very please to announce the availability of the new beta release of Skype for Windows (1.4) We have tried to focus this release on making it easier for users to use Skype on the go, find and add contacts and help get new users started more easily. However there are a number of very exciting new features for developers designed to open up new world of development opportunities.
We will be running a series of post over the next week or so going into these features in more details and we will of course be posting full documentation very soon, but for the moment heres a quick summary..
Free Call Forwarding
Users can now set their Skype client to forward to 1 or multiple PSTN numbers simultaneously, or even to other Skype names
In addition we support complex conditional Call forwarding rules via the API.
For example you can now set calls to forward to your mobile for the first 10 secs and then to your home number for the next 10 seconds and then to any of your colleagues in the office for the remainder of the call.. Skype Call centers anyone?
Expressive Content
Users may now choose from a wide selection of free and for pay sounds, ringtones and images to personalize their Skype experience!
The new release also includes updated API support to get and set all the different ring tones used by Skype. But no more Crazy Frog, please!
Application to Application Messaging
This version also includes a new set of API’s to make it easier for developers to use the Skype network to communicate between applications invisibly to the user. With this API developers can create applications, connect users to them and then send and receive datagrams between each other. Let the Games begin!
Skype Window Control through the API
The API now includes support for greater control over Skypes various windows and dialogs via the ‘OPEN
Example target windows here includude: Profile, Userinfo, Conference, Search, Options, Call History, Dailpad, Authorisation, Import Contacts etc.. . Let Skype do the work for you.
Skype URI links
With 1.4 beta users can also now control Skype directly via html links using our new ‘Skype:’ URI format. The Skype URI handler support the following actions : Initiate calls (eg skype:mat.taylor); Initiate chats (eg skype:mat.taylor?chat); leave voicemail (eg skype:mat.taylor?voicemail); add contacts (eg skype:mat.taylor?add); send files, (skype:mat.taylor?sendfile); show profile data (eg skype:mat.taylor?userinfo) and open multichats. (skype:?chat&id=

Comments
Have you guys been busy, SkypeWeb, SkypeNet API announcements and now Call Forwarding. Exciting times in the Skype community.
When will the API documentation be available for 1.4? Especially around Call Forwarding?
We have a couple of business automation applications on the shelves waiting for this feature.
Have run some initial tests against our Unified Messaging application we have been developing against the current full version and our whole system has crashed a couple of times. Will run further testing.

Hi all Skyper's
What about developing a solution to have several Skype accounts running simultaneously on the same "server". Then it will be easy to set up a forwarding to/from mobilephones for several users, as a service..
Just a thougth.....

Skype Version 1.4.0.47
Skype bugs report:
1. When I double clicked on the contact online I saw the chat-box with yellow bar on top. Inside the yellow bar I saw the message "Chat history ended. What does it mean?" The message "What does that mean?"- is a link. When I click on the link, browser was opened with "http:///" string in the address bar.
2. After a long chat I send a message, but that message was delivered after 8 minutes (internet connection was not lost, and status of Skype was "Online").
3. My Skype status is always "Online", but the stranger was able to start chat with me.
Other suggestions:
I have been using Yahoo Messenger for a long time. I'd love to get rid of it. Is it possible to contact with those who still use Yahoo? I can't push them to use Skype, and I'd prefere to use one program instead of two.
I hope my comments will help.
Thank you.
