Developer Goodies

By My status  on October 26, 2005 in Developer Blog.

On Friday night when most of you were enjoying an alcohol induced haze, myself and Kevin Delaney from Khaoslabs were recording a video interview on how you build Application to Applications using the Skype API.

When I went to bed at 1am, I slept happily knowing that we had done a great job recording.

On Monday I was a little worried when the video hadn’t appeared in the online recording software we used, so I emailed technical support.

They told me that recording is not supported in the trial version, so while I clicked the record button, and responded yes to the “do you want to record this” prompt, and clicked yes to the “do you want to save this recording” prompt it wasn’t actually doing anything. So it’s back to the drawing board with that one.

I have however managed to catch-up with a couple of interesting people around Skype. James Peck who is Skype’s very own Inspector Gadget, Mike Bartlett who is working on some cool features for future versions of Skype, and Owen Parry the Affiliate Program manager. I am busy working on releasing the videos in the next few days.

A lot of work goes into the videos, and I really want you to find them useful, so please do let me have any comments, good or bad as that will help us get them even better.

Developer Of The Month

The good news is I finally received some goodies for Developer of the month contest, so our previous winners Gordon and Vitaly will be pleased. It has taken a while, and the story is best told over a beer, so if you are at Skype Night London or Skype Day in Tokyo come and see me and we can laugh and cry together.

Both Gordon and Vitaly will each receive a Linksys CTI200 phone which will be in the post in the next day or so, and a Jawbone headset when released next month. If you have never heard of the Jawbone, watch the video interview with James Peck in the next few days for a taster.

As another month comes to a close, the winner of this months contest is the Skype Tracer Source program by German Koninin, so a Linksys CTI200 will be on its way out to him in the next day or so. I will also put German on the list to receive a Jawbone when its released as not only has German provided source code, but the Skype Tracer Program is also amazingly useful.

Well done to all our winners.

Incidentally I love the quote from Germans home page “
There are only 10 types of people in this world: those who understand binary and those who don't.”

The developer of the month contest will start again from today. This is probably the easiest competition in the world, you simply upload a sample to the extras galley (to the sample code section).
It can be a complex application or a simple 10 line code snippet that illustrates a point, it can be in C++, VB, Java, C#, or any other programming language, for any OS. The only rule is it has to contain source code.

At the end of the month I choose a winner – simple as that.

Right then, time for me to get busy with some more video editing.

Hey just so you all know, the CTI200 linksys phone software dose not complete its installation on a XP pro 64bit. Meaning it can not talk to skype.
