My Tuesday Evening

As I am in a writing mood, a funny non Skype thing happened to me yesterday.

When I woke up on Tuesday morning I knew that one of my cats had brought a mouse in to the house, usually they take turns trying to wake me up by jumping on me at 6am for their breakfast but on Tuesday they were silent.

After getting dressed I found 2 of them upstairs in my office sitting by some boxes, so the signs said they had a mouse and it was still alive. I threw them out the office and closed the door intending to capture the mouse and release it when I got home from work.

When I got back I found an empty box of teabags and took it up to my office, I found the mouse straight away and caught it. That’s were the fun began…

As I stood back to gloat on how quick I had caught it, he jumped out the box and ran behind some boxes, so I moved the boxes and he made a dash behind my pc. As I couldn’t get behind the pc I had to disconnect the printer and put it on the desk, only while I was doing this he had made a bid for freedom behind the sofa. When I moved the sofa out the way he dashed off to under the TV cabinet. I moved the TV cabinet and he moved with it, so I took the TV off and lifted the cabinet, he anticipated this by darting under my bookshelf. I titled the bookshelf so I could reach underneath and managed to bring 3 shelves of books and DVDs crashing down. It didn’t harm the mouse because he had now moved back under the TV cabinet. As there was no TV on the cabinet (it was covered in books and DVD) it was easy to move. But also easy to escape from and he ran under my fridge.

Around this time my wife started getting very vocal that I hadn’t touched my dinner so I had to stop and eat. Eating meant that I lost sight of him so had to start over again.

After 2 hours of chasing him around the office and causing devastation I decided to get expert help. So opened the door and let in Hanna, the cat that probably brought him home to begin with. Hanna caught the scent immediately, within minutes I was taking the mouse from her and putting him back in the box .

I decided that I would take him down to a small wood that is about a 10 minute walk away, so went downstairs. I though I would pay a quick visit to the bathroom before I set off so set the teabag box down on the kitchen table.

All set, I put my coat on, picked up the box and walked down to the woods chatting to the mouse as I went and thinking about all the good karma I was going to receive for my good deed. When I found a nice area, free from cats I took the lid off the box and gently shook out the contents. 10 teabags fell to the ground, I had picked up the wrong box from the table.

My wife doesn’t drink tea, but yesterday she decided that she would make me a cup after my struggle with the mouse. I will leave you to imagine her reaction as she put her hand into the box to take out a teabag.

As for the lashings of good karma I was hoping to receive, I broke the zip on my jacket when I got home so had to put it in the bin, and I slept alone in the spare room :-(

Incidentally the mouse made it safely to the woods, I hope he had a better sleep than I did.

This service is available on T-Mobile in Germany I'm told. Has anyone tried that?

Hi Lester - thanks much for awarding and sending the Perfectel audio handset. Arrived nicely and works perfect. Appreciate that! Please allow me one comment if you happen to talk to the Perfectel guys again: If they want to position this device as a travel tool, then they might want to consider a pull-out/in cable, which does away the long cable nicely ;) Then it would really be perfect! All the best, STony

Interesting story on the "mouse hunt". I too once had a mouse in my room. But it only came out at night, and tried to go out of my room by scratching the door. At first, I thought it was a really BIG cockroach, and I was surprised to find out that it hid even before I was able to stand up and turn on the lights.

yeah mice are very nippy.

If I ever saw a cockroach the size of a mouse I would lock myself away. Good job it was a mouse.
