Feliz Natal

By My status  on December 23, 2005 in Developer Blog.

This week I have been lazing around and reading a few books as well as going to the movies. I saw King Kong, Harry Potter, and Narnia in the last few days, all of which were pretty good. On the way back from the cinema we saw a truck that had fallen into the mother of all pot holes. In the middle of the street one of the truck font wheels had completely fallen into a hole that must have 3 feet deep. The frustrated driver was trying to drive out but there was no way it was coming out with out a crane.

On Sunday I watched the football, San Paulo v Liverpool in the Super Cup, that was pretty fun, when San Paulo won people were dancing in the street and an amazing amount of fireworks were going off around the city. I can’t wait for England to win the World Cup next year.

We had some sever storms that knocked out the electricity for several hours the other day. No TV and no lights, lucky we had just eaten. As the electric had failed I decided that I would rescue the beers from the fridge and save them from getting warm. I manage to rescue 7 beers, my wife wouldn’t let me rescue any more.

I seem to be a tasty snack for all the local insects. My foot itches like crazy from something that bit me in the night, and I have a 6 inch red patch on my arm from something that bit me in the cinema.

Better go, the mother-in-law is cooking me some food while my father-in-law is pouring me something from a suspicious looking bottle.

Make sure you have a great Christmas holiday whatever you do, and if I get the chance I will try to say Hi again before the New Year.

Lester

Hi, thanks for your product. Hey I have an idea I wanted to recommend.

I've been using SkypeIn and Forwarding to make calls to my girlfriend in Taiwan.

But she has more than one number, so can you make it so if I have more than one SkypeIn number, each can forward to a different number? Thanks!

Feliz Natal para voce, Lester... one of my "natal" wishes is to have a SkypeIn local number for Brazil next year. Do you think it is possible? Thanks, Andrés.

Hello Lester. Many thanks for you and Skipe company, for the very god work that you are doing so well. I would like to suggest changing the sounds of the beta-version (that, with video!). Those "organic" sounds in the b-version are, in my point of view, irritating and not so communicative as the previous. Some sounds like an eletronic barting, terrible. I suppose the old sounds, more traditional, give to all the ideia of a safety service through skype! That's my opinion. Have a very happy new year!!!

Since the topic has diverted this way, I absolutely agree with rcesaruk. One comment that I always got when showing people Skype 1 was "oh wow, sounds just like a telephone!" People depend a lot upon image and audio to build an impression of something's robustness (or lack thereof). The default (modern) Skype 2 sound scheme makes the whole package seem gimmicky. To those who don't already know better :).

thanks for your comments, I have forwarded them on to the right people.

FYI, The released version of Skype 2.0 will have the option to use either the new sounds or the older sounds.

:-)
