Why are we delighted with these events ?
The balance of an ecosystem is achieved through various types of interactions, and one of these is mutuality. We are all shareholders in the Skype ecosystem.
The question of how and why Skype cooperates by sharing its icons and text strings is that we are looking for a ‘win-win situation’ with our surrounding community. This interaction between Skype and its ecosystem can be supported by common features via the API but now we can also offer design elements to enhance your applications.
Researchers have used the Prisoner's Dilemma known from Game Theory, to model a situation with two possible strategies: 'cooperate' or 'defect' as one way to understand how cooperation can persist. In a one-time encounter, the safest strategy to use for each side is to defect. But cooperation can persist when the interacting organisms remember and react to the previous behaviour of their partner in strategies such as 'Tit for Tat'. In these games, defecting or cooperating follows the behaviour of the partner in the last round. If the partner defected, I will defect and vice versa. In some systems, this strategy can lead to stable cooperation.
So we believe by sharing our icons for free under a license, you and Skype will allow our users to navigate easily and enjoy using your applications and devices more with familiar Skype icons and other visual goodies.

looking to game design theory to support stable communities - worth a try i say. I like the concept of mutuality and shareholders - we speak a lot about stakeholders but shareholders opens up new avenues and ideas. Both are dependent in some way on the ecosystem, but the stakeholder has an interest where the shareholder has mutual ownership and responsibility. I'd be very keen to discuss this idea more - maybe a Skypecast.

I like Skype 2.6 beta. I find it very useful to have the numbers on the web.
One of the bug I found so far is that it takes any number, like for instance a tennis match result and transform it as if it was a phone number. Hope it helps. keep up the good work!
