Sh...! Skype is silent for our developers now

By My status Antoine Bertout on October 5, 2006 in Events.

As Jaanus announced the latest Public Beta released for 2.6, we are glad to tell you that this includes a great new API command:

SET SILENT_MODE {ON |OFF}

This simple command offers powerful opportunities to develop games and other applications to use Skype without interruptions from the client by hiding and showing the Skype UI

We have also published at the end of September, the Skype Developer newsletter: first ever edition

We launched the new developer newsletter, a monthly update for partners developing with Skype. Feel free to read it and be aware of the latest news in our program: here.

We would really encourage you to circulate to whom could be interested in.
If you want to be in the loop with our future ones, just send a blank mail to the editor of our newsletter.

thanks for that, i love this command already ;-)

working with it for a few days leaves a bad taste on this new command: the warning message to the user can't be switched off.
so, every time, a user starts his TV (with mcePhone for Skype) or other of our programs that use Skype in the background, the user gets this ugly warning message he needs to confirm to hide Skype UI.
and this dialog can't be controlled by remote control and is not displaying very well on TV screen.

so "develop games and other applications to use Skype without interruptions from the client by hiding and showing the Skype UI" is not very true.
the user gets interrupted in his normal workflow and need to confirm this dialog.

c'mon, there has to be a better solution to this!

and it does not hide the UI on outgoing calls. the skype client still pops up when the user starts a call trough another application using the Skype API

Thanks for reporting these comments Christoph. I will report the bug.

So, when is this coming to the Linux client then ?

tomchiv | Saturday, Oct 14

not sure, tomchiv. there are too many things on the waiting list of linux client developers already...

I'm with cbuenger on this one. I'm building an app that will need to be able to run unattended AND should not interrupt or distract the user if attended.

The unattended part of the requirement means I cannot get the benefit of the new command because of the text box it throws up. Perhaps a new option on the 'Manage access control' dialogue to allow entering silent mode without a prompt?
