The new extras gallery

If you have an application listed in our Extras Gallery then you probably had my emails recently telling you that we are moving to a new gallery next week and that your entry needs to be moved across to the new system.
If you haven’t, then next week we will be launching our new improved Extras Gallery and you will need to re-enter your application in to our new system ASAP if you want it to continue being available for download.
The new gallery will collect more information about your application to help you make the application more appealing to consumers, for example system requirements, operating system, ability to set tags to describe your application and even upload pictures of your application. But probably the feature most requested was the ability to edit/amend your own listing.
A few people have emailed me asking why we didn’t port the data rather than have you re-enter it again. There were many reasons for this; firstly because we haven’t provided any external editing features a number of duplicates have crept into the database. Secondly some descriptions didn’t allow us to port, eg “A free toolbar” doesn’t allow us to complete all the new fields in a meaningful way. And lastly because with the new system you will be able to edit your own entry, and to do this it needs to be based on your Skype ID rather than mine.
We felt the one time hit of having to reenter the applications was a good opportunity to assign you control over your entry while helping us filter out the duplicates and the applications that no longer exist.
If you have an application then now is the perfect time to port it across to the new gallery which can be found at: https://extras.skype.com/ This will replace the existing gallery on Skyp.Com next week when our existing gallery is taken offline and retired.
