I have been trying to find out why Canadians are not offered Canadian skypeIn numbers! There is an estimated population of 33,441,277 in Canada. There are 28,000,000 internet users in Canada 84.3% of our population.Canadians are heavy internet users.I really think Skype could benifit for offering Canadians Skype in Calls! I enjoy what Skype has to offer but i think us Canadians have been left out on a great option!

I want to use Skype for phoning but see Canada doesn't have local numbers yet. As there seems to be a fair bit of "Canadian" content, it would seem we must be on the map and I'm wondering when Canadian phone numbers will be available.

why are they not answering us back on the Canadian number???? I just dumped money into skype credit for nothing!!!! My girlfriend wanted a way to be able to call me during the day because my cell is not free until the evening and she can't reach me unless she calls a US number. THis will be more expensive than using my cell...WTF!! Guess Canada is not big enough??? lol !!

Wow!! I was just about to sign up....and then I read the comments! I'm with the other Canadians out there. If we are going to pay for a service...we want our own CANADIAN phone number. Otherwise, this is just what I would enjoy.
Once this happens, I will be pleased to join Skype.
Thanks,

Two things.
First, it is my understanding that phone numbers in Canada are under the control of the CRTC (quasi-government body) and they have not made numbers available for on-line use. There is nothing that Skype can do about this. It is Canadian law.
Second, having said that, it would be nice if Skype would comment on the progress they are making with their CRTC lobbying efforts. I have tried to find some comment from Skype on this issue on their web site but to no avail.
Does Skype monitor these comments and comment officially where appropriate?

Perhaps Skype can organize a petition that we Canadians can join to let CRTC know we are interested in this issue. Honestly, I wonder what the CRTC accomplishes other than carefully guarding the interests of big monopolies and oligopolies in Canada.
