Mac OSX API examples

By My status Antoine "Ants" on May 31, 2007 in Examples, Tutorials.

btn_macosx_56.png

As I was uploading new examples in the DevZone for the Mac developer, I thought you guys would like to be posted here too.

There have been a couple of important fixes lately in the Skype.framework made by our internal developers.

For example [SkypeAPI connect] and ConnectToSkype functions are much faster now. That was something API Mac developers reported in the past.

Support for multi-threaded API clients was improved and many new commands implemented. We highly recommend you to use the latest version of Skype.framework (2.6.0.142). You could read the Change Log history.

Skype Mac version 2.6 also features a window where it is possible to edit the permissions of Skype API clients.

We’re sure glad ya called

By My status Antoine "Ants" on May 25, 2007 in Movies.

Next week, Skype will launch a promotion for an upcoming Sony movie called Vacancy.

The campaign will initially launch in the UK and will then gradually be released to other regions in Europe as the film is released. This is also how using the Extras channel you can release your applications or games only to certain regions or adjust with the localization.

The movie is a thriller based around a young couple who are lost and become stranded in an isolated Motel. So now, let’s have a look… and play!

Skype API is catching up on Linux

By My status Peeter P. Mõtsküla on May 24, 2007 in .

Yesterday’s release of Skype for Linux 1.4.0.64 (Alpha) marks an important milestone for the Skype developer community: it’s the first ever release of Skype for Linux where the API allows you to do things that you can’t do in the UI.

Putting string theory into practice

By My status Peeter P. Mõtsküla on May 23, 2007 in .

In order to present a consistent user experience to our users we ask that external developers use the same strings in their user interfaces that we use in the Skype Client. To make this a bit simpler for you, we have published a list of almost 2900 phrases in 28 languages — and licensed this to all developers under the terms of Skype Component License.

Kudos to Peter Kalmström and the kind folks at the Skype Localization Team.

Ping for Q3 premium/featured candidates

By My status Peeter P. Mõtsküla on May 21, 2007 in .

As you should already know, only Skype Certified Extras will be eligible for premium and featured placement in Extras Manager and Extras Gallery starting July 1st. This means that you all will have to get your Extras not only tested but also PASSED by that time.

Below, I’ll highlight some aspects of the certification process.

Certification update for premium and featured Extras

By My status Peeter P. Mõtsküla on May 18, 2007 in .

We at Skype have always wanted our users to say: “Hey, it just works!”

Of course, we’d love the same to be true when our users are trying out Skype Extras. But we also want a lot of people to be able to innovate around Skype, and requiring that all Extras must get Skype Certified before they can reach the users might become a bit too steep barrier, especially for those developers who have only just joined the Skype community.

That said, we at SDP have chosen a middle ground. Effective from July 1st, all premium and featured Extras will have to be Skype Certified.

See you in New York

By My status Antoine "Ants" on May 16, 2007 in Partners and developers.

Travel%20Skype.png

Sometimes it is good to meet face to face people from the community and partners.

As we had last week our first Geek event, great success, thanks to the 40 attendees (pictures and video are coming soon), this time we invite those who will be in this city which doesn’t sleep to come and meet us.

We will be staying in Manhattan from Saturday 19th until Monday 21st of May. So for those who are already working with us, drop me a chat or call me. Now, I’m also looking forward meeting new faces too ;)

Anyway, it will be a great opportunity to share more with you and review your concepts and roadmaps during these three days.

See you in New York.

New certification specs by end of June

By My status Peeter P. Mõtsküla on May 9, 2007 in .

As the quantity and quality of Skype Certified software increase, we are making the requirements tougher so that “Skype Certified” would always remain a true label of quality. At the same time, we want to make sure that you will always know which requirements you’ve got to build your programs against.

We release updated test specifications into production use twice a year — in each January and July. The specifications evolve under the eyes of the entire Skype developer community, and everyone is welcome to contribute their suggestions for improvement.

Below, I’ll give a brief overview of what and how we plan to change.

Idea: skypetunnel

By My status Peeter P. Mõtsküla on May 4, 2007 in Developer Blog.

A thought has been bugging me for about a year now. The idea is that someone should create a Skype add-on that would allow tunneling any TCP traffic over secure ap2ap connections to other Skype users, much like plain old ssh can be used to tunnel TCP traffic to other internet hosts.
