Skype Pro Does Call Transfer

By My status Don Kennedy on June 13, 2007 in Developer Blog.

There are some very neat and new additions to services included with Skype Pro which include Skype To Go which allows you to for example call a local number using your cell phone and reach a international number using Skype, as well as "Call Transfer". Call Transfer should not be confused with Call Forwarding.

Call Transfer allows your calls to be transferred to other phone number(s) or Skype name(s) on a Skype call by Skype call basis.

Skype Pro is available in the following countries Click Here.

Call Transfer with Skype Pro also supports using a Group of any combination of multiple Skype names and/or phone numbers so that a call can be transferred to many Skype names and/or phone numbers at once and the first one to answer gets the call.

Example 1:

Not sure where you will be?

Not a problem with Call Transfer, using Call Transfer, you can add multiple phone numbers and Skype names to be added to a group, Transfer all your calls to the Group, and you can answer those calls on your cell phone, on your land line, or at work, or even while using another Skype name. The first one to answer the call gets the call that was transferred.

Example 2::

Have multiple people in a small office and want a cost effective software only solution to receive and route calls in the office without any of those expensive hardware solutions? Make custom Skype contact groups like marketing, shipping, and others. Transfer calls to people in marketing, shipping, using their Skype names or phone numbers and let the first one in the group answer the call, or transfer to a unique Skype name or SkypeIn or PSTN phone number.

Skype Pro can offer you this:

Call Transfer from Skype names to phone numbers via SkypeOut as well as Call Transfer from inbound calls via SkypeIn to SkypeOut numbers requires Skype Pro.

This includes the United States as well as Canada, with or without the unlimited call plan. Call transfers in both these countries without the unlimited call plan will be billed at normal SkypeOut call rates.

Call Transfers from Skype name to Skype name are free and do not require Skype Pro or SkypeIn.

To learn more about how you or your company could use Call Transfer with and without Skype Pro or SkypeIn as well as with a free Call Transfer program and much more details on how Call Transfer works, please click on the continue reading link.

This Free Call Transfer Program can show you how to do any of the examples below.

Call Transfer Working Example

The Above example is also a FREE Skype Extra and can be found in the Extras Manager.

Tools -> Do More -> Get Extras

Then select Community, and install the Call Transfer Example.

Can You Do Call Transfers for FREE without Skype Pro?

You can transfer any Skype to Skype calls to other Skype name(s) for free. It is important to note you can transfer a Skype call to a Group of Skype names. The first Skype name to answer the call gets the Transferred call.

What Can You Do With Skype Pro and Call Transfer Without SkypeIn?

You can transfer Skype to Skype calls using SkypeOut to phone numbers. This can also be a group of SkypeOut numbers and/or Skype names. There are some similar restrictions that are in place for Call Forwarding that also apply for Call Transfer More Here.

What Can You Do With Skype Pro and SkypeIn and Call Transfer?

You can do all of the above plus transfer calls from your SkypeIn number as well.

Notes:

Please remember that Call Transfer is still in beta, and not everything maybe perfect with it at this time.

The above Call Transfer example program also has an automatic transfer check box, so that you do not need to manually transfer the call. Also the Box that says "Or Enter One Skype name or Phone #" now supports multiple Skype names and/or phone numbers, seperated by a comma, so that you can do Group Call Transfers using any combinations of Skype names and phone numbers seperated by a comma.

Call Transfer is also supported in versions 3.5.x.x Skype client for Windows version and higher GUI. To download the Beta version 3.5.0.107 of the Skype client for Windows please Click Here.

Currently. the Skype client GUI for call transfer does not support an automatic call transfer mode or group transfers, however, the Call Transfer Example program for Skype does support these Skype features.

To see and use these call transfer functions, please click on the Call Transfer example photo included above to download the example program or Click Here. If you are using a business version of the Skype client for Windows, or another version that does not inlcude the Extras Manager please download this version of the Call Transfer Example for Skype Click Here.

Outbound SkypeOut calls cannot be transferred, only inbound calls can currently be transferred.

If you are going to transfer Skype to Skype calls, The callers Skype version should be at least Skype for WIndows 3.2.x.x.

The Call Transfer example was done in C# using Microsoft Visual Studio Express 2005 and the entire project, including source code, as well as much more detail on how to use the program can be found by Clicking Here.

When you say "What Can You Do With Skype Pro and SkypeIn and Call Transfer?

You can do all of the above plus transfer calls from your SkypeIn number as well."

Are you referring to the call transfer that comes with Skype Pro? Or are you referring to the free call transfer program in conjunction with Skype Pro?

If it's the latter, why is Skype Pro required in order to get the call transfer program to work with skypein?

To do Call Transfer, you need to be using a version of the 3.5 Skype Windows client, there is a link in the article to the beta release of 3.5 as well as Skype Pro. Without Skype Pro the only Call Transfers you can do is:

Skype to Skype

With Skype Pro you also can Call Transfer:

Skype to SkypeOut

SkypeIn to Skype

SkypeIn to SkypeOut

The Skype 3.5.0.107 beta release does not support automatic-call transfers or group call transfers the free example program does support these.

I live in USA. I was having Skype Unlimited, which expired recently. I have SkypeIn. My question is - if I buy skype pro, and if someone calls to me on my SkypeIn number - will the call transferred to my US mobile number / office number be free or charged?
