API roadmap for 2008 and beyond

By My status  on July 6, 2007 in Developer Blog.

Last year the major focus of the Skype Developer Program was to bring you a route to market for your applications. We delivered this in the form of the Extras Manager which we launched in December with amazing success. (If you look at the latest stats, over 24 million extras have been downloaded by customers since the launch).

Recently we enabled the final piece of the route to market puzzle by turning on our payment collection capabilities which means users can purchase your application directly with Skype credits and the money you earn will be paid into your PayPal account.

It’s now time for us to look beyond Extras and collect requirements for the platform for 2008 and beyond, and we are looking for your input.

For some of you the requirements may simply be 1 or 2 new APIs that would either save you loads of code, or just enable you to build that killer feature. For others the requirements maybe an entirely new set of features.

Nether the less if you want to input in to the future of the Skype platform please give us your ideas/requirements by leaving your comments here https://developer.skype.com/wiki/2008ApiRequirements by the 13th July so requests can be collated.

Of course leaving a comment does not absolutely guarantee that your feature will be developed but if you are on the list then at least it gets considered.

The following features/APIs that we need:
1). (API) Ping a contact to obtain its presence in real-time, sometimes presence of the contact in the contact list is not updated real-time, we need a API to get the presence of specified contact in realtime.
2). (Feature) Launching multiple Skype instances on windows 2003 server/windows vista, especially on 2003 server. A Skype PBX system need to launch multiple Skype instances on the same computer to handle concurrent calls.

Thanks for read.

Jacky, you can run up to 4 instances of Skype on Windows using the RunAs command.

I regularly have 2 instances running for demos.

Most of the API seems to be for Skype. We would like to have an API to create, edit and list skypecasts so we can have true integration of skypecasts on the web.

We also like the other two items that are already on the list: an OpenID server and enhanced presence.

Hi, Lester, Thank you for your reply.
As I know, Multiple Skype instances only can be launched on Windows XP system, no way to do that on Vista or 2003 system.
