San Jose, Calif., September 28, 2007, Skype has just named the U.S. Winner of Mashup Cup.

As part of its vision to extend its public platform to third-party developers, SDP has honored JiWire, Inc., for its winning entry in the 2007 Skype Mashup Competition. The JiWire Hotspot Finder for Skype™ was named the winner of the competition in the U.S. region last night during Skype’s Developer Program Open House.

JiWire has created a dynamic mobile Internet experience for Skype users through a unique plug-in for finding and connecting to wireless networks. Considering the many strong entries in the Skype Mashup Competition, we’re delighted that the JiWire Hotspot Finder for Skype has been chosen for this award

said Nihad Hafiz, Co-Founder, President and COO of JiWire. To what Paul answered:

The mashup judges felt this was the best submission from the U.S. region as it is stable, looks great and, perhaps most important, is useful. Slick, smooth and useful – this is a good benchmark for other developers to consider.

Currently, GET PRIVILEGE provides True/False information about the status of SkypeOut, SkypeIn, and Voicemail. PSTNBALANCE and PSTNBALANCE_CURRENCY are properties of the PROFILE object and accessible via GET PROFILE propertyName.

Several feature requests have been filed on Jira, asking more service status information to be made available via the API. I’ve just merged three such requests into SPA-410 and am awaiting comments and further suggestions from the developer community.

Once upon a time in Skypeland, Skype built all the main roads, enabling people in all bigger cities to meet each other. But a lot of people lived in smaller places, and some of the city-dwellers wanted to visit the countryside now and then.

Luckily enough, there were other developers who had built the side roads connecting the main highways with such smaller towns and villages, and offering the travellers some spectacular views down the road.

In order to decide where to focus their energy next, the developers needed to know Skype’s plans for improving the main highway network.

For the first time in history, these plans are now publicly available. And you are actually invited to contribute.

Skype announced yesterday that the overall winning entry in their 2007 Mashup Competition is PamFax from PamConsult. A mashup is a software application or service that combines data from more than one source into an integrated experience. It has paralles in the hip-hop music practice of mixing two or more songs.
