I have been trying to find out why Canadians are not offered Canadian skypeIn numbers! There is an estimated population of 33,441,277 in Canada. There are 28,000,000 internet users in Canada, 84.3% of our population.Canadians are heavy internet users.I really think Skype could benifit for offering Canadians SkypeIn Calls! I enjoy what Skype has to offer... but i think us Canadians have been left out on a great option!

sheldon.mills | Sunday, Dec 21

I totally TOTALLY agree. I think it is the reason why a LOT of Canadians don't sign up for Skype, but subscribe to alternative plans instead.... but would join Skype if they could have Canadian Skypeln calls too!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello
not to be rude but plz stopsending me this same email offerin me a first call for free anywhere i wANT for ten min. as i havetried todo just that NUMERIOUs TIMES to no avail. each time it tells me i need to pay you for a call in advance first . so change your email wording from false leading to maybe
"once you prepay for skype min. on your accout your first ten min worth of calling will not be charged to your account !!"
i know it mighty not draw in as many downloads but youd hold more respect in folks eyes as beinhonest not just anothe online gimmick tricking folks

I also am from canada,bc and would like a bc area code so that family and friends can call me with no charge until this happens i will only use skype while I am traveling to call out and very limited at that.

karen.dave2 | Sunday, Jan 4

I'm also in Canada - Ontario - and would buy a Skypein number if a local one was available. Since it's not, in the mean time I guess I'll stick with Vonage. There's no point in getting a US number, because all my friends and family would have to pay expensive long distance to call.

In addition, this is a pretty frustrating site. I've been around and around, and I can't find anywhere a link to email in a question.

joantcanuck | Monday, Jan 5

I guess they might have their arms locked because of the CRTC ? Anyway I am still praying to be able to buy a skypein number in my local area (Montreal) ..

It's sad really, and it p*ss me off to be left apart! :(

lyne.boucher | Tuesday, Jan 6

Well it's actually not because of CRTC, because other companies offer virtual phone numbers and they say on there website that it can't be used for 911/e911 calls. So as far as i know it's not that. But a Canadian service would really benefit them.

In the 4.0(Beta), the hotkeys won't work :S
By the way, it waaay looks better than the old 3.x

krisztian37 | Saturday, Jan 17

The 4.0 version does look better, but I've noticed somethings that have gone missing. 1) You cannot send your contacts' info to a friend anymore 2)The old version would diplay the last time you saw someone online when you held the mouse pointer over their name, not anymore either.

I was wondering if there was somehow to have a video call with more than 2 people? Thanks for the answers.

The upgrade to Skype 4.0.0.206 no longer works with SkypeMate (USB to audio interface to analog phone line).

Dialing phone from my analog phone via the SkypeMate box no longer works - Can this functionality be restored? In the meantime, is there a way to roll back to a previous version of Skype?

I encountered the same problem Upgrade 4.0.0.206 does not work with Skypemate - very anoying for me - fortunately I had an older version setup stored on my PC - I will try to roll it back.

udomannes | Tuesday, Feb 10

Hi,
Could you do something with the font size in Contacts in Skype 4.0.0.206 running under Windows XP? Fonts are much too small to read and can by no means be adjusted, which I find particularly annoyable. The same applies to the size of font used to display the description next to the avatar. Lots of people have asked for this modification, so far with no success. Do you really want all your end-users to wear glasses because of your faulty interface?

I cant get skypemate to work properly.there is a dial tone on my phone during a conversation. Is there any way to fix that?

FIX FOR SKYPEMATE TO WORK WITH SKYPE V4.0+

I have the USB-RJ11 Phone Adapter for Skype, that runs with SkypeMate driver/software, connected to my cordless home phone system. I updated to the latest version of Skype 4.0+ on 02/23/09 and after doing so my SkypeMate software did not "see" the new version of Skype, or vice versa.

Went to the following website that sells the USB-RJ11 Phone Adapter for Skype and found "Skype 4.0 SkypeMate for WIndows XP, Vista zip Version 4.0.2.0 2/16/09" under the DRIVERS list (first entry).

http://www.von-phone.com/support-b2k.php

Downloaded the driver, exited SkypeMate and Skype, installed the driver and restarted Skype then SkypeMate. Tried to make call but still did not work. Then (while I was trying again to make a call) I noticed a message in the upper right of the Skype screen that said something like "SkypeMate is trying to access Skype" with buttons to "Allow" or "Not Allow". I chose Allow and SkypeMate started working. You may have to click the "Call Phones" bar in the lower right of the Skype screen first to see the "Allow" message in the upper right.

Hopefully this will work for whatever hardware your using with SkypeMate.

usamaxx | Tuesday, Feb 24

Small Correction

The "Call Phones" bar is in the lower Left of the Skype screen, not the lower right.

usamaxx | Tuesday, Feb 24

Additional Info:

The version of Skype I downloaded in regards to my previous two posts on Tuesday, Feb 24 was V4.0.0.206

Initiating the dialing of a call with the pound (#) key on my phone handset worked as well with the new SkypeMate driver.

usamaxx | Tuesday, Feb 24

Just downloaded the new (4.0) version last night. It is too big. Not interested in an avatar. What happened to being able to see when a person was last online? How do I return to older version?

this is indeed a crap version.....many features we don't need...but some vitals disappear....like seeing who was last online....will roll back to older version..unless they can patch this....I only installed it to get better tel calls !

tdionnet | Wednesday, Feb 25

Sorry Skype. I have to agree with most posters. v4.0 stinks. Doesn't work with skypemate, even with the new 4.0 driver!

While the idea behind skype is great, the web site, tech support, and product implementation are all very shoddy at best.

Is this "blog" stuff really supposed to be a substitute for online support forum you axed?

Just pathetic.

There is a competitor to skype that I will not name so I don't get flamed that I am considering trying when my subscription expires. Enough is enough.

vfguy1 | Sunday, Mar 1

Must also agree with previous comments re: Canadian area codes unavailable. Most likely it is the CRTC that is allowing Cdn operators (Telus etc) to be able to cream off long-distance charges from local callers to internet phones. (legalized scam..?).
Also Skype vs. 4.0 is very poor effort. It doesn't fix the problem of skype repeatedly poping up when Media Center video is playing, and it prevents dialing from a Skypemate USB cordless phone by popping up the dialing screen which is not needed or wanted. Also totally agree with lack of support, just a really bad show which will come back to haunt them as competitors jump in now.

voipeeing | Tuesday, Mar 3

I am from Ontario and have used Skype for years. Repeated attempts to find out why "Skypein" is not available for CANADA has revealed that the problem rests with our federal "communication control" and in particular with "BELL CANADIEN" need I say more??

The most obvious reason for there not being any Canadian Skype numbers available is ''PROTECTIONISM'' pure and simple. It is not difficult to arrange them so there must be a block from the Canadian government in league with the telecom companies. You need to shout louder for your rights and force the issue!!!
You also need to pressure the same people for universal services such as ''Free to receive'' on cell phones and prepaid cards that do not expire. Why are Canadians so easy to take advantage of?

ukenterprise | Thursday, Mar 19

Probably the same as others; I liked the old version with video in a window by itself-I don't need all this extra b.s. up on my screen-it only clutters it up. And, the previous version was GREAT, it would diplay the last time you saw someone online when you 'hovered' pointer over their name, and it would tell you how many friends each have which was cool! ...not anymore either. how can I go BACK to the prior version now? Also, this one pops off in the middle of the conversation. Anyone...HELP?

andy.hunter-jumper | Thursday, Mar 26

I have gotten the new Skype 4.0 working with my Skypemate with the latest "yeamon" drivers. The only issue I have now is that when I want to play back my voice mails I have to switch my speaker setting to my computer speakers as opposed to the USB Telbox I have hooked up with Skypemate. Once I listen I have to switch speakers back to the USB Telbox. Otherwise when I am talking to someone the conversation comes through my computer speakers and creates a warbly kind of feedback.

The other Skypemate issue is in screen resolution. It goes through that "adjustment" when you first start Skypemate, but on my computer - after the first time, it did it right the first time and returned my screen resolution to the one I had previously set - now when I reboot I have to manually reset the screen resolution higher each time. I've reloaded both softwares in case it was some setting I mistakenly changed, but it never did it right again.

These are minor in view of everything, but annoying - does anyone have these problems and/or a solution yet to these issues?

Thanks!

I tried this and it fits my needs.
