Video costs: Skype $0, satellite $8000+

In light of the recent [Niklas and Tim Draper videocall](/blog/products_and_services/skype%27s_video_had_its_first_live_public_test..._and_passed/), here's another aspect to it: the cost of doing the interview over Skype videocall. (And commenting on [Skype Journal's](http://www.skypejournal.com/blog/archives/2005/07/skype_shares_th.php) "(I expect that the connection and bandwidth had no limitations and was well tested)." -- yeah, a few trial runs were done before the actual live call, but no other extensive setup or testing, as SkypeJournal rightly indicates by the comment on Niklas' white shirt and Tim Draper's colorful tie.)
> Q: If we didn't do the interview via Skype video, how would we have done that interview? And, how much would that have cost?
A: If we'd done a traditional satellite uplink/downlink it would have been in the $8K ballpark on the US side, plus the going rate in Estonia.

This product is not really freeware. You have to install the main application of Audiomatic first which is just a 14-days-trial.
