Skype buttons now available
By
Jaanus on September 28, 2005 in Sharing tools news.
As part of the Skype for Windows 1.4 release, we bring you the enhanced, advanced, fully reworked and revamped [Skype buttons](http://share.skype.com/tools_for_sharing/skype_buttons/skype_buttons/) for your blog, website or e-mail signatures. Now, we had some sort of buttons before, but they weren't very interesting. The new ones are much more fun and useful.
We went to great lengths to make the buttons useful. Getting them right in all the browsers and mail clients wasn't easy at all and there may be glitches remaining, but most bugs should be ironed out by now. We think the dropdown multi-action one is the coolest -- not only does it let you call, but you can also add the person to your Contacts, start a chat, leave voicemail, view profile or start sending a file. But the individual action buttons are fun too, and can be used in e-mails where the dropdown one wouldn't work.

The link to "Skype buttons" is broken in RSS readers (not an absolute link).

Will Skype buttons be available for Mac OS X users soon?
We can't use them.

Nice. Very useful! The transparent dropdown doesn't work perfectly on IE 6 though, sometimes there seems to be a line break in the button.

I just wasted a lot of time sending emails back and forth to try to get the skype buttons to work. Finally I find out you don't support Mac. Do you have something against Mac users? Okay, maybe it will be coming later but you should tell us in your information text about the fabulous new buttons that Mac users shouldn't waste their time now.
Everything else about Skype is great. Love your service.

To hell with the buttons an banners, figure out a way to take my perfectly good money from PayPal. I'll not say one positive word to anyone about Sk-Yikes! until I see it act like a real company instead of some two-year olds with a bunch of poorly working new toys.

To use the botton, where i have to paste the html line to use the botton in the signature?

Very nice, but you can not put more than 1 advanced button per page. When you press the second one, it acts as if you press the 1st one.

Very nice!
I guess you don't have any buttons in Spanish...
Is there any way for the users to translate button messages into other langagues by ourselves (changing the html code)?
Instead of creating one button for every langague, I guess it should be very quick and useful to promote Skype in non english sites like mine...
Thanks very much for your reply and kinf regards,
Nacho.

NEW DOES NOT MEAN BETTER!!!!
I liked the old banners more than these childish, weard blobbing confusions: I am not in kindergarten any more!!!!
Also the old "call me" button was clearer to explain you are calling in to a Skype connection.

Well...I must be stupid.
How do I use any of these buttons as part of my email signature?
I have tried a cut and paste and end up pasting the code only??
Help?

When I paste the code to my email signature editor, after sending the email it shows the plain text only, not the botton. What is wrong with that?
Please reply me at: acelebi63@hotmail.com

"When I paste the code to my email signature editor, after sending the email it shows the plain text only, not the botton. What is wrong with that?"
I too am having exactly the same issue. I use Outlook Express and Incredimail, and both programms display text-only sigs, not the icons I was hoping for.
I must be doing something wrong, and would really like to broadcast my Skype to e-mail contacts.
Any help to peter@loveclose.force9.co.uk greatly appreciated. Please head your e-mail as 'Friendly Skpe Suport' so that i don't delete what may appear to be junk mail.
Many thanks indeed.
Peter

I see that many have a problem to get skype buttons to work in the e-mail. I spent a long time to get it right too. At first i went to the skype wizard an choosed the button i wanted. In the box, right click and copy. Then open notepad and right click and choose paste. Then select save as, and in the file name, choose a name to call the button. F.eks. Big Blue.html and click save. It usually gets saved in my documents. You now have a html document. Then go e-mail and signatures. Click on new and browse through my documents until you find the html document. Click ok. This is the only way i cold try to help some one. Please excuse my english.

Neat idea. But, has anybody been Skype-spammed because of this, yet? Within 24 hours of installing Skype, we were approached by several people whom we didn't know, wanting authorization to know when we were online, etc. Those were just random shots by someone searching the database. I can't imagine publishing my Skype name anywhere on the net persistenly, where it can be crawled. Or am I just paranoid?

Am I missing something here? I am trying to add the button (any will do) to my Hotmail personal signature. I have followed the instructions in "Get a Skype button" and can only display the code - no button. HELP! Am I an idiot and doing it wrong, or is it Skype?
