4 million online users

By My status Jaanus on October 19, 2005 in News, events, milestones.

After a while, we've got to yet another million, fourth this time.

Image

Also, worth noting (thanks to Bill from [Skype Journal](http://www.skypejournal.com) for the idea) that almost exactly a year ago, on October 20 2004, a year back from tomorrow, we had our first million simultaneous users. So that's 3 million onliners added in 365 days, or on an average, 8000 new onliners a day.

Skype rules!
:-D

rhadamanth | Wednesday, Oct 19

Skype support is VERY BAD. I've been using 10$ per week in Skype Out Credit, paying with paypal. Yesterday I could no longer pay with paypal. And I need to make so many important phone calls. Skype has no phone number, they arnt responding to my tickets, and does not read there own forums. Why isnt paypal listed anymore under my payment options!! I see this listed under FAQ \"My account is temporarily restricted to only Moneybookers, why? How long will it be restricted?\" I am a real customer! I came to depend on the services, now they are screwing me over. Please help!

It's really amazing! 4 million!

Suppose that:
3% of 4 million online users might use Skypeout for international calls for 5 times a day,
their averave call duration is 5 minutes

That will be 3 million minutes per day and 90 million minutes per month, which will be equivalent to more than 30% of total volume of Japan originated international calls!

The all above info is just my speculation, though.

russia 1 cent instead of 4.5 cents!

>Skype support is VERY BAD.

I guess it is true that Skype has to make effort for customer support and quality control.

It has been growing so fast by attracting customers with good audio quality, convenient service and low price.

Now the first stage was over.

Skype should get ready for the second stage which requires better customer-frinedly support and reliable quality.

Especially in Skypeout, too aggresive price might lead unsatisfactory service and quality, which might make customers disappointed.

Big deal... where's the linux version? :)

Tho Skype should really pay more attention to its own linux version, which sux big time for the past 2 or 3 months.

Just tried skype for the first time with an audio conference across france.
Everything worked incredibly smoothly
I am trully Amazed !
I remember trying to use audio conference devices and tel services from France telecom and it was a nightmare
nobody could really make the thing work
With Skype, it took us a few minutes to figure it out
and we really got some work done

Next step : Skype at home with a phone and goodbye phone bills

Then i got a stupid auto reply that had nothing to do with the problem, but it`s to long to post here

Hello, Hannes Linno

My problem regarding skypeout is that my skypeout account is deactivated , I
have funds on it and have used skypeout before. I don't understand why its
not activated and if I try to activate it or transfer more funds, I get a
message that its not possible to respond to my request due to safety
reasons.
Can you please help me, or activate my skypeout account.

Regards stian eide

Hello,

Sorry about the delay.

Our records indicate that your SkypeOut credit balance has unfortunately expired.

Credit in your SkypeOut balance remains active for 180 days after your last successful PSTN phone call. Credit balances on accounts with no activity during a 180 day period will be lost.

This is written in our Terms of Service, Article 6, paragraph 6.5:
http://www.skype.com/company/legal/terms/tos_voip.html

You can read more about this policy on our website:
http://www.skype.com/company/news/2004/sa_creditexpirypolicychange.html

Please notice, that there was always a warning about when is your credit going to expire on My Account page in internet (under the remaining credit number).

===============
The problem of not being able to buy new credits is temporary and should disappear in about a week. Please try again then and let us know if it's still not working.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Mirje

Although this grow is nice, on a worldwide scale it has a small impact. I still cannot reach 75% of my friends through Skype simple because they don't work in IT and don't understand what Skype is all about. I try to install and help as much as possible but Skype should play a bigger role in this.

It's time for Skype to pick local partners and do focused marketing to get much more marketshare. Going global by going local.

In the past cash was a problem but now eBay has taken over there is some cash to spend on local markting. The only way to get better 'coverage' in a local country is starting the marketing machine.

>It's time for Skype to pick local partners and do focused marketing to get much more marketshare. Going global by going local.

That's right.
HOwever, despite many proposal for partnership, Skype is too busy to respond to them. IT's a pity.

I think that Skype will become the most popular P2P and Chat program. I don't know about the others but my personal experience shows that more than 90% of my On-Line conversations are through Skype ®

All so for these who say that they could not charge their Skype Out credits. What in hell stops you to use Cell phones I always have one stuck to my ear :)

Still trying to find out if anyone I know is a Skype user so I can use the free service.

ch24von | Tuesday, Nov 1

I purchased 10 Euros credit on two occassions as a part of the promotion for obtaining three months of voicemail and 120 minutes of SkypeOut.

This promotion has never been activated. What am I doing wrong?
