Central Contact List disabled for some Skype for Windows versions

By My status Jaanus on March 7, 2006 in News, events, milestones.

The announcement and more details are here. In short -- if you are using any Skype for Windows version between 1.4.0.84 and 2.0.0.73, the Central Contacts List feature is disabled for you. The client continues to work normally, but the contact list will not be synchronised with the contact server. So it's better that you [upgrade to the latest version](http://www.skype.com/download/skype/windows/) (currently 2.0.0.90) right away. Other platforms are not affected.

We had to make this change because there was a bug in these particular versions which caused the performance of the Central Contact List to be degraded for everyone else. Many users have noted that Central Contact List is not performing reliably at times, and this bug was largely the cause for this. By disabling the Central Contact List for these versions, we make it work better for everyone else.

What if you don't want centralised contacts?
I want one contact list for home and one for work.

Chris - having separate contact lists for same Skype Name is not supported. What some people do in this case is have separate Skype Names for home and for work.

Yes, I thought of that but I have some overlap between work and home contacts and it's major hassle to have to give people two skype names to call me on depending on where I am.
The old system was better as I could have two sets of contacts or some blocked contacts at Home.

This is bad news for all Windows 2000 and Skype video users who are still limited/forced to use Skype version 2.0.0.43.

I Upgraded to the latest version and my computer went into a semi coma. It basicalyy brought all my programs to a sloooow crawl. It was so bad I had to uninstall it and now cannot re-install.

How can I download another version taht will work as noramallly as the one I had and was very happy with for the last year so?
