A developer in the bush

By My status Jaanus on June 29, 2006 in Life at Skype.

Mihkel is a Skype developer. Working on the Mac version, no less. He's travelling a bit with his mobile office. A Skype friend in Italy did this mini-interview with him.

**Mihkel, is this you first time in Italy?**

Nope, that's the fourth already. All times by car btw.

**Nice, so the first time you went here you was not able to use Skype right? How do you feel to use Skype to call every one at home for free?**

It's great indeed.

**How do you connect to the net? Are you using a portable PC?**

I'm using 2 portable Macs.

**Two?**

Yep, one iBook and one MacBook, I sometimes need to use 2 Macs at the same time for work.

**Are you working at the sun? I mean are you using Skype in public areas also?**

I'm working in different places where there's Internet available. That's a nice feature about working at Skype that you are not tied to one particular location.

**Cool! So people see you talking in the middle of the street? What do they say?**

We just had a meeting where 3 participants were in Tallinn, Estonia, 2 in London and me in Civitavecchia, Italy. Well, I usually don't talk in the very middle of street, but yes, indeed, it looks sometimes quite strange when a person is talking to his computer. Some people have come and asked how is it possible to talk to one's computer.

**So even in holidays you keep pushing and working for Skype.**

No, I have no holidays at the moment, I'm just working. In Italy. The arrangement I made was 1 week of holidays during which I moved to Italy, 2 weeks working here and finally 1 week of holiday to look around some more and get back home. Nice plan, isn't it?

**Marvelous, thanks for telling us this. Enjoy the Italians, food, sun & ladies.**

Thanks, I'll certainly do. Except the ladies -- I've brought my own with me.

When I saw the topic I thought you are talking about someone coding in the jungle or something. He is working in one of the best spots for vacation in the world. Come on, I want to work there.
