BREAKING NEWS: The Younger Generation Is Much, Much Smarter Than We Are

By My status Scott Indrisek on July 10, 2006 in Insight.

The SkypeCast system is fairly young, and we're always excited to hear from users who are catching on to its advantages. Enter 17-year old Josh Bolling, a Virginia resident who runs the online podcast Slash Dot Radio, a virtual discussion group based around the techie news blog Slash Dot. Along with co-host Chad Ohman (all of 14, and he took apart and rebuilt his first computer at the age of 9), Josh has begun hosting Slash Dot Radio Skypecasts, which he then records and posts online as podcasts.

Every now and then we forget that the next generation grew up on the cutting edge of technology like Skype and its precursors. I'm both proud and dismayed to realize that while I verbally and ineffectively berate my stubborn laptop, somewhere out there a self-taught 12-year old is building his own wireless network out of tin foil and spare circuit boards.

Yes but can he build a house, a chair or feed himself without going to a supermarket ? Careful with these sweeping statement as in " The Younger Generation Is Much, Much Smarter Than We Are " Per se using a PC is something and building it is something else. After all Alexander the Great was 14 when he conquered the (known) "World"

I find it quite scary that people in their mid-20s are already "old" by today's standards :|

Well... Do they have a life? Do they know how to hit on girls? Could they survive out on the street by themself? Well most probably can.

But yeah, we, the younger generation has to be smarter... While it takes my 20 year older coworkers weeks to learn some new software at work it takes me maybe a couple of days. And I bet if I was interrested in builing a chair I could probably do that too! :)

Well I am a 35 yo female & find programs very easy to learn...It can take me only a day or two as well. But, I must say that I am very proud of our Millenium Generation & find nothing wrong with them being smarter than me. It is very obvious that, with technology growing as it is, our children should be better at it than us old folks :P
