Free SkypeOut calls from the US and Canada to UK, Mexico and Japan on three weekends

By My status Jaanus on July 11, 2006 in Campaigns and promotions.

[Full release here.](http://about.skype.com/2006/07/skype_announces_free_internati.html) Note that this applies only to the US and Canada.

> Free SkypeOut calling to the United Kingdom, Mexico and Japan is available weekends July 15-16, July 22-23 and July 29-30, respectively. The free international SkypeOut calling offer to each country runs 48 hours from 12:01 a.m. EDT Saturdays through Sundays at midnight EDT, when international calling is at a peak.

Many of our recent "free calls" initiatives have been circling around North America recently. This leaves the rest of you worried, as we've seen it in comments. Fear not, for we are working on expanding the scope of these activities, as you can also see with the [Gift Days](http://share.skype.com/sites/en/2006/07/skype_gift_days_july_schedule.html). I know that Henry Gomez who assumed the "chief marketer" position in Skype just last week is very keen on this and will post his own updates here shortly.

Why oh why does only the USA & Canada get special deals like this?

What about us Europeans (particularly us in the UK)???

Hopefully we'll also get some deals in the future. Please consider sharing them with people other than North America

RileyM874 has a good point - although Skype can be used throughout the world, why does a European venture like Skype give the "best deals" to countries outside of Europe?

Can we expect future great deals that encompass Europe?

Now living in Santa Monica. Tried my first call to Japan. Called my brother's mobile. Guess what - I got charged $1.12C for the call. So there are no free calls to Japan this weekend. And if there are how do I get my money back?

I agree with you. It seems it is also a tricky announcmeent, as it says the calls are for free, but unless you dive deep in to the information concerning it, you realise late that is only for calls made from USA and Canada. I am a mexican currently living in Italy. Would have been great to be included in the promotion to call my friends and family.
