Tip: turning a regular Skype call into a conference call

By My status Jaanus on November 1, 2006 in Insight.

Here's a question that many of you have recently asked.

> How to add a person onto a current call or connection, to make a conference call, without having to hang up? I have a call on and want to put another on to join but I have not found how to do it without hanging up and then starting a conference call with the parties.

It's simple, once you know how. In current Skype versions, what you can do is this. Once you have a call going on, go back to your contact list and right-click on the contact you wish to add. You see a neat "Invite to conference" option. (When not in a call, you still see the option, but it's greyed out since, well, there is no call where to invite this contact.) Once you click that, this contact gets added to your call that automatically becomes a conference call. Simple. Done. And works equally fine with both Skype and SkypeOut contacts.

And I hear that in the next versions, it will be even simpler, so watch out for that.

OK, I have an advanced question. The teleconference feature is designed to work easily with other Skype users, and will "call out" to regular phones to connect them into the conference.
BUT, what if I need someone to call IN to a conference? Calling out is nice, but may not work for every situation, so can we please allow callers to "join" our conference from outide (We paid for call-in) like all professional teleconfence products do?
That would be huge for our business needs.
Thx,
MIH

Well, has this been answered anywhere yet?
If I invite someone to join conference then I am paying for that call as well aren't I?
If they call via skypein surely they pay for it
Or am I completely wrong?

Skype falsely advertises free conference calls. If you call 9 people on cell or landlines and talk for an hour thats 540 minutes or 9 hours of talk time, exceeding the 6 hour "unlimited call time" under a subscription by 3 hours, therefore a charge kicks in of .024 per minute, or 180 minutes at $4.32.

It took several different inquires to customer service, with no direct answers to discover why my credit was dwindling and calls dropped. They suspend your subscription and drop everyone when 6 hours reached!

I like Skype but there needs to be improvements in communication and clarity of plans.

@dale.loflin see elsewhere on the site for more information on what's free and what isn't - let me know if anything's unclear.
