Four new SkypeIn countries

By My status Villu Arak on June 14, 2007 in News, events, milestones, Skype around the world.

Ok, it's actually three new SkypeIn countries: Chile, New Zealand and Romania. But because the Dominican Republic was added quietly earlier this year, it's worth an honorable mention.

SkypeIn numbers are now available in 18 countries. Here's a quick refresher: When you have a SkypeIn number, your friends who don’t have Skype can call a regular phone number. And you will receive the call on your computer or any other piece of gear that runs Skype.

1 vote for Austria being the next country :)

The most advanced technology in the world is developed in Israel - like Duo 2 Core of Intel. In addition the Israeli Shekel is one of the most stable currencies in the world. It's just logical that Skype should expand to including the Shekel for service payments

Great for Chile :-)
Although it's more expensive than the rest of the countries :-(

Now, one vote for Argentina as the next addition :-)

Hasn't got legs.
What about "running water"?
?
So I could have paid in Shmekels? I forked out with my UK account!

romaurie | Tuesday, Jun 19

I'd also have to vote for Austria to get onto that list!

deggler | Sunday, Jun 24

Thanks for New Zealand! I'm surprised by the lack of media interest actually.

james.nimmo | Tuesday, Jun 26

Yes, another thank you for New Zealand! I've been waiting for this ages :)

timeshifting | Tuesday, Jun 26

This is great news for New Zealanders looking for an alternative. I have been waiting for a long time to have a SkypeIn account as I do not currently have a landline (dissatisfaction with telecommunication providers here).

I agree with being surprised by the lack of media interest; this is a huge step forward for this country where for years have been ruled by monopolies and lack of competition in this area.

lchuynh | Saturday, Jun 30

But what about Italy, your european manager could succeed in his own country or there are many other interests in between?

maloja | Monday, Jul 2

thanks for Romania :)
i've been waiting for this

mike_vodafone | Tuesday, Jul 17

Spain should be on a very high priority, since there are so many foriegners here. They have a large need for a simple and cost friendly solution to talk to family and friends. Since Tekefonica is a bit corrupt, I guess that Telefonica is blocking it. It will not surprise me at all. It is not the first time I come across dirty tricks by them.

hakanfalk | Saturday, Jul 21

finally Romania. I'm glad for that. We have a beautiful country. Maybe you hear a lot about this country. Visit Romania is a kind of "India of Europe" full of contrasts but is a positive experience.

Hi, Just wrote about Skype' contribution to VoIP industry at http://www.ilocus.com/2007/08/the_10_that_established_voip_p_7.html
Would welcome your comments. On the other hand I would appreciate if you could list iLocus as 'Friends of Skype'. We blog on VoIP and telecom in general. thanks

I wish I could create a SkypeIn phone in Russia. I know quite a few people who have relatives and friends in Russia, who can not affort international calls. Having a local number for incoming calls could solve the problem for many thousands around the world.

cfmgroupinternational | Friday, Nov 2

just moved from chicago to toronto... dying for a skypein number for toronto/GTA. don't want to get rogers for home phone (they already get me for everything else!)

analog.rook | Thursday, Nov 15

yeah, it would be nice to have Hungary on that list....

bee_new_york_home | Sunday, Nov 25

Why not Moscow in Russia (about 12 million inhabitants and internet is growing fastest in the world there now)?

filofea | Thursday, Jan 24

it seems odd that Canada is not included yet. Is it a legality issue? How can we move it forward more quickly?

earthman100 | Friday, Jan 25

when can we get SkypeIn in Canada and Québec.
Thanks.

bernard_altea | Tuesday, Jan 29

I can't believe Canadians do not have access to local skypein numbers, yet. My igloo is totally equipped and ready to go, yet I cannot get a skypein number with my 519 area code. :-)

candicelawrence | Tuesday, Jan 29

How do we get more information from Skype directly as to what is holding up Canada from being included in the SkypeIn list of countries serviced?

zsolt.cseh | Monday, Feb 4

When can we expect to see South Korea and Russia added to the list?

ericfelgenhauer | Tuesday, Feb 12

IsraelNumber.com can provide a forwarding of numbers from Canda/Italy/Spain and many other locations to your Skype user. The cost is about 15$ setup, 15$/month for most locations. unlimited incoming call, fix cost, no long-term commitment, multiple numbers. At sign up, request to forward the calls to your Skype user.

nir2far | Tuesday, Feb 12

Another vote for SkypeIn numbers for Canada. I agree it seems odd that Canada wouldn't have been one of the first few countries added unless there was some type of regulatory challenge.

wade.chan.kent | Wednesday, Feb 13

I think the more countries the better. I love to learn from different cultures. So many people have so much to say. You will see this to be true if you log into www.emarital.com. Many people are waiting to talk and hang out.

punituni | Wednesday, Feb 13

A vote for adding Israel as well as the Netherlands

slonimza | Tuesday, Feb 26

Russia will be an important world link, must have Skypein numbers for Russia.

bikeamtn | Wednesday, Feb 27

Agree with those above. Strange that Canada is not included. Wrote to support and said nothing about that being a legal issue. Hope we're gonna have it soon!

bosse-de-nage | Friday, Mar 7

AUSTRIAAAAAAAA!!! Please add it!
