Sound thinking

By My status Villu Arak on June 14, 2007 in Insight, Skype Beta and new releases.

This is one of those posts that strives to inspire y’all to upgrade your version of Skype. So what is it this time? In a word: sound. The sound of music. The sound of silence. The sound of the bearded supplier in Macedonia.

There are many factors that affect the way your Skype-to-Skype call sounds. Some are beyond our reach. Others we — and you — can control.

With each new release, Skype’s engineers improve sound and video quality. And because we’ve replaced our audio engine in our most recent releases — it’s now fully built in-house — it’s worth bearing in mind that you may run into some bumps when a call is placed from an older version of Skype to newer versions.

Maybe the only bumps you encounter are goosebumps. Most people won’t notice a thing. But to set your mind at ease and to get the best possible call quality, it’s definitely worth upgrading.

Upgraded Skype version needed to continue using Skypecasts
Our engineers have made Skypecasts sound better than ever before. And we want to make sure you enjoy them more than ever before. [/quote]

So, now we have our Skype without Skypecasts because, it connects for 7 seconds and ends call automatically.

The CPU load of skype even in idle mode is ridiculous. Take a look at miranda instant messanger or get some better coders.
For the same reason I stopped using ICQ because it sent my PC in lethargie.
How about a skype light? Or open the code so that people can write some serious software that one can actualy use.

Jeeze H.W., you remind me much of the people on MAME's forum, who have little understanding of programming and believe a program's speed is somehow directly proportional to it's features or executable size.

I run Skype 24/7 on a 1gig machine with only 768 megs of ram. It uses a good deal of CPU Time when using voice chat, and even more when the video is enabled, but Idle the program just sleeps. Either your PC is old enough to remember the Y2K scare, your video card says 'Trident VGA' on it, you still use Windows 98, or there is in fact some OTHER program running in the background that is the real culprit.

I tried Beta 3.5 for about a week. I decided to downgrade until they fix the "Show Outlook Contacts" problem. It shows my Outlook contacts in my Skype window, but it doesn't show the number. Video sharing is not something I really care much about. BTW, Skype is the least of my worries as a "Resources Pig". Have you seen what Symantec products are doing to computers? Even my favorite web browser (Firefox) is taking up more RAM/CPU than Skype.
