To Go further… make international calls from any phone, including your mobile to almost anyone in the world

By My status Peter on January 10, 2008 in Skype announcements.

So, remember back in June 2007 when you were living in Sweden with a mobile in your pocket with a friend in San Nicolás de los Garza? And Skype To Go made it possible for you to call your friend in this impossibly beautiful-sounding place in Mexico without burning a hole your pocket?

Well now imagine being able to do that from any phone of your choice, including your mobile, to any friend in almost any country, all through just one local phone number. We know, we know, simplicity is bliss.

Enter the new and improved Skype To Go. It’s still a part of Skype Pro, but now you can use this one Skype To Go number to call any of your friends almost anywhere in the world. You don’t have to sweat about which one friend to choose anymore, you can call any of them at any given time, almost anywhere they are. For the more speed-dial inclined, you can set up to 6 friends, family or colleagues.

How does the new Skype To Go number work? It’s simple:

  • Sign up to a local Skype To Go number which you can call from anywhere in your country. See below for available Skype To Go countries.
  • Register online by adding up to six of your favourite friends phone numbers or Skype addresses you want to reach.
  • A friendly Skype voice will also guide you on the phone to tap in a phone number or select one of your six favourite friends from your speed dial list.

What are the costs?

  • Skype Pro subscription fee is €2 (€2.30 with VAT included) per month
  • The cost of a local call to your Skype To Go number (maybe part of your inclusive minutes, mobile or otherwise)
  • Plus the cost of the SkypeOut call to the country of destination number

The new Skype To Go number is available in the following countries: Australia, Chile, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Ireland, New Zealand, Poland, Sweden, UK and the US.

*Please note that Skype To Go in Hong Kong and Japan will remain unchanged, but we are working very hard for you to be able to call more than one person from your Skype To Go number in the future.

Please click here to find out more and register a new Skype To Go number.

is there a delay in speed dial numbers being recognized by the system? I added a couple numbers for my account, but when I called my ToGo number, the voice guide did not mention a speed dial option.

I did add 6 friends in my list but now the number that was assigned to me, to go # does not recognize my pin number.
Also, when I check my settings in my account, the phone where I was calling from is not in the list of recognized numbers.
Thanks

Similar to both ang_kurt and roxabriankosten, I have added friends' numbers and dialed out from my phone but after entering the PIN (which seemed to work) I was not given the option to dial my friends, I had to re-input the number and when I look in the online settings my phone does not show and I am not given the option to register it in any way - How does this function?

Hi, I appear to have the same problem - I cannot register my phone and as a result was charged a hefty sum by my mobile operator for international calls

hasbeancounter | Tuesday, Jan 15

I just tried this again and now you have options - Press "1" to add the phone you are on - Then press "1" to choose one of your speed dials or "2" to dial a number manually.

I still cannot get the menu that tell you about the speed dial numbers. And every time i want to dial an international number, i cannot get it right. How can i enter a "+" number from a cellphone?

quikemon | Wednesday, Jan 16

since last night i havent been given the option to call a contact on speed dial, it just asks to enter a number with the country code. for the last week or so, i was able to use the speed dial, soim not sure what skype has done in the last few days, but my speed dials dont work now.

I have been unable to register a phone to call from for the last couple of months The result is that despite paying the monthly charge, I can't use this service. Messages to tech support get no replies.

What's going on folks?

Hi ! I'm having trouble as well : I cannot register my home phone on skype, and when I call my Togo number from my homephone, a far away voice answers that my call cannot be completed as dialed !!! Any idea ? Thanks for your help !

Been using skype for about 2 years now and this all sounds fantastic. However, what about those of us who travel extensively around the world. We need to be able to call anywhere from anywhere. For instance, my home is in Sydney but I spend about 60% of my life in other countries. Do I need a "to go" number in all these places, or is there a simple answer I'm missing.

An answer to this problem, for many of us would be like finding life on Mars, particularly given the propensity for hotels to gouge on intenet access charges.

its very good program

its good

So if I understood it right it is besides having the speed dial option also possible to dial any other number manually by phoning the TO GO NUMBER??
This answer is quite important to me since it depends which mobile contract I am going to choose.

Thanks for the reply
Stefan

I am really dissapointed in SKYPE at the moment! I have a Skype PRO account since a year or so. Now when I have paid 25 Euros to fill in talking time in my account, I recieve (after a couple of weeks!!) a mail confirmation from Skype that teh money has arrived and will be available in my account in an hour or so. But the money dissapears and is never transferred to my Skype account!!

When I try to communicate to the Helpdesk of Skype the answer is complete silence. I cannot find a mail address to a living soul at Skype I cannot find a snail mail address nothing!

Now I decided to start to fill these places with feedback until there is someone who cares and answers me.

Warmly,

I am signed up with Skype Out and Skype Pro with Skype To Go number. When I try to dial from my computer the Skype To Go number, I can dial it, but it will not take my PIN. Is this right? Am I unable to use Skype Out to call my Skype To Go Number? Or am I doing something wrong.
Thanks to anyone who can answer.
Shirley

Hi Shirley,

I haven't used Skype To Go, but everything I've read about it suggests that you have to call your 'To Go' number from your normal phone/mobile, not through Skype Out.

It seems that Skype To Go has only been designed to be accessed from a landline/mobile, because if you had access to a computer, then you could simply use Skype Out to call someone rather than using Skype To Go.

Please leave another comment though if you've been able to make it work through your computer.

Cheers,

Geoff

I have had Skype for about a month and have been trying to use Skype To Go and the phone numbers that I have in speed dial never once have they connected. I dial the number select the speed dial number and then the phone just disconnects. This happens every time and from every phone I try. Do you have any recomendations?
