Carrying the torch - introducing Peter Parkes
By
Peter Parkes on June 30, 2008 in Announcements.

Hello!
It seems like only yesterday that I was introducing myself to the readers of Skype’s UK blog — and today I’m stepping up to take on this one.
I see my role not as that of an author, or even necessarily an editor. Instead, I see myself more as a curator — so you’ll be hearing from plenty of other people here at Skype besides me. We’ve already featured Josh Silverman and Mike Bartlett among others, and that’s a trend I want to continue.
Of course, that doesn’t mean that I’ll be taking a back seat. My role is very much two way — both talking about what Skype’s up to, and, more importantly, listening to what you have to say.
I’m not going to claim that this blog isn’t about marketing, but those of you who’ve read the Cluetrain Manifesto (or any of the hundreds of books and blogs which discuss similar ideas) will be familiar with the idea of ‘marketing as a conversation’. That means talking and listening — and that’s what this blog is about.
You can find me on Skype as peterparkes — and don’t forget to grab the feed for this blog, or subscribe to email updates. That way you won’t miss a thing ![]()

Hello,
I'm writing this to you hoping that you could forward it to someone to do something about this matter. We've been using Skype ever since it started. Skype is part of our daily life. I use it to communicate with my family abroad, see my loved ones on webcam, sending messages, sharing files, and having good times. I can't describe to you how Skype brings people together, bring them closer, and bring joy to their lives.
No I dont pay to use your service. Probably Skype didn't make from me more than 50 bucks in the whole many past years. But I hope that doesn't mean we dont deserve your attention.
The new radical minister of communication here in Kuwait has requested to block skype. And now ISPs are blocking it. The reason is because Skype charges far less than what local phone companies charge for LOCAL PHONE CALLS!!
Now I dont want to go into details about their reasons but I beg you at Skype to communicate with the MOC officially and if not for lifting the block on Skype as a whole, at least for enabling PC to PC communications.
I wanted to send this as an email, but couldn't find any email address. and the help page doesn't work because of block filter. i'm using proxy at the moment and having trouble posting anything here

Hi there
We have been with SKYPE for years and we LOVE it. We've moved a lot internationally and it keeps us in contact with our loved ones in Australia.. the other side of the world... but this is not what I'm here about.
Just wanted to wish you guys (and girls, whatever...) all of you a big fat HAPPY 5th BIRTHDAY!!! and a huge THANKS.
The reason that I'm sending this through you peterparkes is because the powers that be at Skype are incredibly difficult to find! Suggestion - maybe you could have a 'want-to-tell-us-something-good' link? Perhaps you could pass on our best wishes and thanks to those who might listen.
The service just keeps getting better and better. We used to have problems intermittently with quality, and (very rarely) still do, but HEY, it's the cheapest thing around, bright and bubbly, and a little Richard Branson-ish in the way-to-do business. We like this!
Keep up the good work, and keep it as cheap as possible!
Kindest regards
Angela & Family
