Windows Vista and Skype

By My status Raul on April 11, 2007 in General, Skype for Windows.

It has been widely asked question lately, does Skype support Windows Vista or not?

Well to start with the official answer, then it is that Skype does not currently support Windows Vista as of version 3.2.

On the other hand in real life Skype works on Windows Vista pretty ok. It may have problems with audio and video calls on some configurations, mainly due to not mature enough drivers.

You are welcomed to try Skype on Windows Vista, but when doing it first please make sure that you have installed absolutely latest audio, video drivers and updated Windows Vista.

If you encounter problems when using Skype, then please report it to us, so we can solve those issues for you.

You can learn how to leave us issue reports on our Skype for Windows development page or create new thread in appreciate Skype forums.

Will it ever be able to work on windows vista? when will the drivers be updated?

sheilafoster | Thursday, Apr 12

Yes of course it will work on Vista in future.

Drivers updates are depending on manufacturers of devices.

Any tips on installing Skype on a machine running Windows Vista? It seems to always block the install with an error message, stating that Skype is 'not a valid Win32 application'.

bartosangie | Sunday, Apr 15

What version of Skype are you installing?

Can you please try latest 3.2 beta version.

Can you make screenshot of this error, if it is still there?

When and what version of Skype is going to work in Windows Vista?

vbvkel | Tuesday, May 8

Just downloaded 3.2 beta to get skype running with Vista build 6000. Will not install. Error 2739 appears immediately. Previous version installs but cannot use as keeps hanging

audio does work propwrly with Vista. I keep getting a message which say something about skype not being able to hear my audio input . After i have reselected the same audio options in the resulting popup message it springs into life although skype is apparently unable to remember these settings under Vista... please help

Hi - just got a new laptop with Vista and tried to install SKYPE but the install stops. I have a SKYPE account, have paid for the unlimited service - but now can't use it! How can I get it to install to see if it will work?

sadnams | Sunday, May 13

We have just installed skype and are having the same audio problem (we can hear them, they can't hear us). We are running windows vista. What do you suggest we do to resolve this?

wayne.melissa.blake | Wednesday, May 16

Well, the problem is not related to drivers in my case: simply SKYPE does not connect. My DELL E520 is connected to my home LAN which is connected to Internet by an US Robotocs ADSL router. All other PCs in the same LAN (three XP based) works (all of them have Skype installed), but not the Vista based one. The problem is not the firewall, since no connection occurs even if firewall is disabled, nor connection to Internet itself, since IE works (but NOT in protected mode). I suspect it si a problem of some hidden parameter of the TCPIP stack.

ghirotta | Saturday, May 19

Hello, I also have Vista and can hear the person I have called but they can't hear me. Can this be remedied yet?
Thanks

Hello I'm also having problem with Skype (any version, also latest 3.2 beta) instalation - error message: 'not a valid Win32 application'. I'm using Vista Home Basic edition updated to the latest version. How can I fix it? Thanks for your help!

kruelofik2 | Friday, May 25

I got a problem similar to the problem reported by user ghirotta. I had Skype on a notebook Dell Latitude X300 WinXP on my corporate network, Skyé working fast and fine. I recently switch to another Dell notebook, XPS M1210 with Windows Vista. In this case Skype never finishes the login process, and moreover, it entirely blocks ALL internet access! When I quit Skype completely (icon disappearing from task bar), all internet access is restored again. I have tried both single download and Google Pack installation, begining Skype after installation and shutting down computer after installation, then beginning Skype.

galarcon59 | Friday, May 25

I, like the above, am having problems with my party hearing me. I can hear them fine. In fact, the problem only starts when i start my video. When I stop my video I can be heard. As soon as I start it however, I sound garbled. To make matters more confusing, I don't always have the problem. I usually do, but there are times when I don't. Has any one figured out a fix yet? Anyone? Anyone? Bueler?

scgibbons | Sunday, May 27

Hey,

everytime I try connect to the internet (WLAN DSL) while running Skype (Skype is trying to connect the server) I fail. I only get restricted access to the network (i.e. not internet. It works, when I shut down Skype while connecting.

Best regards,
Stefan

I have just changed to Vista HomePremium & I can take calls as normal but keep getting high pitched beeps at intervals making it difficult to concentrate on the conversation. Any answers anybody?

oupagg | Sunday, Jun 3

I am also experiencing the same problems. Skype works fine on Vista when I am using an audio headset, however, when I recently bought a Microsoft NX-6000 lifecam and I do not get any picture and people cannot hear me when I make skype calls. I hope skype have a new fix for issue very soon.

sjsultan | Sunday, Jun 3

Skype is working reasonably well with Vista 32-bit, It's connected with my Skype-compatible VoIP Phone, and the software is stable.

It's just fidgety to configure and none of the games work, but that isn't an issue. Sound quality is fantastic, and there's no breakage or anything. I'm impressed, considering it's 'Not Compatible'.

james.gartland | Wednesday, Jun 6

It's just not Skype with the Vista troubles. The Vtech 7100 USB phone that does Skype as well in XP simply won't work as an internet phone with Skype and vista at all. In fact, to the best of my knowledge, none of the manufacturers phones will work with Vista. Unbelievable?
I'd like to see what happens when Walmart starts selling Skype phones and accessories shortly and people return the stuff because it isn't Vista compatible.
Wake up Skype and VOIP phone makers! Smell the coffee! More and more computers are having Vista pre installed these days.

The only other solution is to get a Mac!
Problem solved!

I've install skype 3.1.0.150 in a W.Vista Laptop. It seems to work but I can not see my entire contact list. I don't know why. I've been working in another computer with skype and I have me list complete. HELP PLEASE!

Knew what to do in XP to select sound and audio device settings to have speakers and Robotics VOiP phone both working when each connected through docking station usb ports. Now with new machine with Vista pre-installed, I can't find equivilent instructions either on Skype's site nor Microsoft's to adjust settings (the control panel on Vista is of course different to xp and I've not managed to find the equivilent window for Sounds and Audio devices to effect the right set up). Perhaps it's all part of the teething problems. Any advice please?

simonsgoode1 | Monday, Jun 11

I have been using skype for some time now and since I bought new laptop with Vista I am persistenly having problems. I've got the latest version 3.2. The problem is with the audio. During conversation the words are repeating up to 10 times and you have to wait to be able to hear properly again. It happens every few minutes.

gogatom | Monday, Jun 11

Gogatom if you have this problem still with 3.5 beta then please report it in Jira with log files.

raul.liive | Thursday, Jun 14

Ditto on the i-phone not working with vista, and Skype keeps giving me errors and won't connect. This is nuts.

Have new Dell XPS M1210 notebook and downloaded skype beta 3.5. Contacts list fine, can send SMS, but when I try to ring someone or they ring me I get an message stating "Please check audio settings and make sure you have the right microphone connected" which of course I do appear to have? What next, any clues?

stevenareeves | Saturday, Jun 16

Running VISTA and have tried both Skype 3.2 and 3.5 Beta. The problem is, when I dial echo123, I can hear the first ring, then Skype is muting the build-in speakers (Dell Inspiron 6400). The speaker symbol in the bottom right corner get a red slash. I also have no michrophone input (Logitech communicate STX)

sophus12 | Wednesday, Jun 20

Raul, I have the same problem as gogatom (Jun 11 and your reply Jun 14) with 3.5 as well as 3.2. It is like continual Max Headroom moments (if you know that from the 80's). This is on Win Vista Business, with a Plantronics DSP-400 USB headset.

I have Vtech 7100 and vtech that I just installed on my new Vista PC and it doesn't work. Vtech says they have no intention of updating the drivers. Great Product, the phone is only a few months old. I would definitely not recommend vtech to anyone.

I have 2 new NEC notebooks a Versa E6210 came with a build in web cam mic and skype button and vista home premium, has been working well for the last month, hanging up a bit in phone calls say 1 in 10 but I thought it was my ADSL2 connection.
Problem today, when I click on Skype the program goes into the Task bar instead of opening?

Tried the simple things re boot, reload, 3.2 and 3.5 beta, was running the 3.2 business origionaly (the .msi)uninstall skype toolbar.

The other notenook a L2200 works fine with Vista Home Basic.. Anyone out there have a fix? cheers Colin colin@servicebroker.com.au

Hi,
Yesterday I just installed Skype 3.2.0.175 on Windows Vista (Ultimate) and it causes IE 7.0 crash when you close it, the message is:
+ Check online for a solution and restart the program
+ Restart the program

I just disabled Add-on and it seems to fix the problem.

Hello there
I am having exactly the same problem as colola69. I too have a dell Inspiron 1501 with windows Vista. When I use Skype and attach webcam and microphone my contacts can see me but cannot hear me althoughI can hear them. Is there anything I can do to resolve this problem? Thanks for help

gillian.archer | Tuesday, Jul 10

I am having the same problem as many of you. IE v. 7 under window vista keeps crashing. I have to restart the PC to make it work again. Also I can hear but people at the other end do not.

emilio-mendez | Friday, Jul 13

I am using 32-BIT Vista Home on my DELL E520 and maybe 1 minute after I sign in my Skype icon goes from green to grey and then ALL of my programs that use the internet stop working.

I allowed Skype as an exception on my firewall, but I don't know what else to do. I am using Version 3.2 of Skype by the way.

trentzor | Friday, Jul 13

I have exactly the same problem as trentzor. The internet connection goes down right after start of Skype and won't work unless I reboot the Computer. It's a brand new Dell Dimension 9200 with Windows Vista Home Premium BTW.

alexkops | Monday, Jul 16

I found the solution after searching through the forums: The McAfee antivirus software that's preinstalled on Dell Computers is causing this problem. After I uninstalled it, the problem was gone.

alexkops | Monday, Jul 16

will it help somehow if i use program capability in windows vista?

Latest version Vista Home Premium (as of 18/06/07) running on an Acer Aspire 5610 laptop. Skype 3.2 runs in the background, but the GUI does not appear; nor does skype appear in the task bar.

Very similar problem. Installed a CT200 Phone with Vista and get a message "please update your operating system". I have all current updates and now cant use my $200 phone with skype or even log on to skype. I swear I should have bought a MAC. Please help Skype people! I need to make calls.

I installed Skype 3.5 Beta on my Gateway MT6821 and it works perfectly. But, as I have no webcam, I could not test if it is okay.

kissinger_007 | Friday, Jul 27

I am appalled at Skype running under Vista. Video calls are normal, for a few minutes, then the video I am transmitting freezes, and shortly thereafter my laptop crashes with a blue screen. And yet some video calls are OK. I have reported the details to Skype Tech Support but no answer after several days.
I have a new Toshiba Satellite laptop and a Logitech notebook camera. I am using the latest version of Skype. I have unistalled and reinstalled Skype and camera software. Skype out calls are OK, however.
This problem is very frustrating and time consuming, not only to me but to those who I contact. Does anyone else have the same problem, and do Skype staff recognise it as a problem - if so what is happening abot it? Or should I just give up?

cujimmyboy | Tuesday, Jul 31

I have some similar problems with the Skype and Vista on my dell inspiron 6400, Vista Home Premium. Initially, the skype was not working at all-trying to connect and hanging there, meanwhile blocking the entire network connection. Recently I changed to another network (wi-fi again) and now the skype seems to work for some time and then does the same thing and have to kill it from the task manager and then all goes back to normal. the mic is not working, not only under skype, but in general. I remember that the first time that I plugged the mic into the PC (skype was not installed yet), a pop-up window came up asking something about it, which, of course, I ignored :) and now I cannot activate my mic. So for now I just hear what others have to say and type in response. it has some advantages: I type much faster now :)))

josif.mirceski | Thursday, Aug 2

I just rolled back the driver for the sound card (sigmatel high definition) to the one installed originally with the pc (21.06.2006) and the microphone works just fine now.

josif.mirceski | Thursday, Aug 2

Hi,
I have Vista home premium on my PC. I had the same problem with not being able to install Skype (not valid win 32 application error as pointed out above by others). Once I disabled Norton , I could install the latest Beta version of Skype but not the regular skype version though). It seems to be working fine. I did not try any calls yet but the test call works okay.

seasawmaria | Thursday, Aug 9

I also found frustration with Vista business edition and Vista. Connection might work sometimes, but then just stops and also all internet applications are off line (web also). Need to exit Skype and wait some time or disconnect and reconnect by ADSL (Speedtouch) gateway and back. If I never use Skype no problems. When will this be fixed...or does someone know what can be done?

brucetuch | Friday, Aug 10

I just did a clean install of Vista. Microphone and speakers work fine outside Skype. But when I start a call, my sound settings are automatically muted by Skype and I cannot hear anything. Other people can hear me fine though, and my video is working! Anyone HELP?

Why the hell, does it not work with Vista? You have to be cutting edge and current. This is un-acceptable, you need to make this happen ASAP. IT has to work with Vista and you need to give us a deadline as to when this going to happen.
Thank You

I have a problem with Skype on Windows Vista Ultimate.
If I quit the application I cannot start it up again later, unless I restart my computer.

For some reason, a Skype.exe process is continously running in the Process under task manager, and I cannot end the process.

THIS IS THE ONLY PROGRAM I AM EXPERIENCING SUCH SEVERE ERRORS WITH!

This should be fixed ASAP, as Skype takes resources if left idle .. I would like to quit an application, and start it again when demanded.

This happend to earlier versions of Skype and the latest version of Skype.

I find it UNBELIEVABLE that the major VOIP player has not yet released an official Vista compatible version of Skype. It's almost September and still no support. This is really BAD Skype!!!

callnpay | Friday, Aug 31

Ok, looks as if this has been an ongoing issue that needs to be addressed. I too am using Windows Vista and it is most certainly unacceptable that Skype would not be up w/ the times and be compatible w/ Vista and its users. Plus it would have been nice for a Warning up front...rather then racking my brain trying to figure out what I did wrong...when in fact it wasn't me at all....Thanks for all the time wasted!! Any news on updates for using it w/ Vista please let me know.

Hello,

I just recently updated to Windows Vista Business from XP. I have a Skype unlimited account which is good till May 2008. Since it looks like you do not have a stable version of Skype yet for my OS, would you be willing to refund the remainder of my Skype unlimited account.

Also, there are many comments here, but no one from Skype has posted an update or explanation of what is taking so long.

I have a hunch you folks are working as hard and fast as you can to fix this...it would be great if you could take a moment or two to include us in the information loop. We'd all feel much better about your company; now we just feel abandoned and ignored.

Thanks!

I've been sing 3.5 beta on Vista (Dell Inspiron 1420) with absolutely no problems.

micah356 | Tuesday, Sep 11

I can't get the latest version to work - 3.5.0 downloaded today - to work with my Vista Home Premium. I can hear OK but the sound out is all broken up. Like Peter McGovern above I am really shocked that no-one from Skype is explaining anything. OK, Skype are clear that their product is for Windows XP but Skype has become an essential part of life for many of us and it is not like we have a choice about running Vista - it is what you get if you buy a new machine (which I had to do recently). Come on Skype - tell us what you are doing about it.

simonmollison1 | Tuesday, Sep 11

I've been holding off buying a laptop because of all the comments above.
I found the following post elsewhere, can someone confirm if this works please?

Quote:
"It took me a while to figure this out, so I thought I'd share it.

Skype will install and run under Vista. You'll be able to call others, and
even the beta video feature will work.

However, if anyone tries to call your computer, they will receive a
"rejection" message saying that you only accept calls from people in your
contact list. This will happen even if the caller is in your contact list,
or you have configured Skype to accept calls from all callers.

The reason for this is the Windows Firewall. For some reason, it will allow
outbound internet access by Skype, but it blocks in-bound calls. To correct
this, open Windows Firewall in the Control Panel, select "Allow a program
through the firewall," and manually check Skype.

After this, Skype will function normally."

peggy.thorpe | Tuesday, Sep 18

I ununstalled Skype from my Vista Home edition computer and it solved my IE7 crash problems instantly. While I had Skype installed IE7 the problems were seen
- Going to certain websites would cause it to crash.
- On closing IE7, I would get a message saying IE7 has stopped working and ask me to either close it or reopen the application.
I had a recent version of Skype. I previously tried updating to the latest Hotfixes for NVDIA GeForce versions.

Skype works great on my 3 year old Mac Powerbook G4 running Mac OS X (v10.4.10). I was going to load the latest version of Skype on my new Vista Home Premium laptop, but after reading all the problems listed on this blog I definitely will not... I found that turning off Norton during the installation will prevent the Invalid Win32 application error.

Additional fix from an internet post by PTravel as follows...

Hope it helps,
Tracy A. Phaup
www.Tracy-Phaup.com

"Skype will install and run under Vista. You'll be able to call others, and even the beta video feature will work. However, if anyone tries to call your computer, they will receive a "rejection" message saying that you only accept calls from people in your
contact list. This will happen even if the caller is in your contact list, or you have configured Skype to accept calls from all callers.

The reason for this is the Windows Firewall. For some reason, it will allow outbound internet access by Skype, but it blocks in-bound calls. To correct
this, open Windows Firewall in the Control Panel, select "Allow a program through the firewall," and manually check Skype.

After this, Skype will function normally."

This is a quote from the very top of this page.

"It may have problems with audio and video calls on some configurations,"

I bought Skype to make audio and video calls. Isn't that what it's for. Why else would I have it. This is my only phone service and it doesn't work. It is time to get the driver issue fixed.
After all, microsoft won't return my money for vista and I want to talk to MOM!!!.

I have the same problem with IE7 when I have Skype 3.5 downloaded with my Vista OS. Everything else worked fine, it just caused problems with IE. Any suggestions?

I have the same problem with IE7 when I have Skype 3.5 downloaded with my Vista OS. It prompts me to close IE7 or restart IE and closes all of my tabs. When I uninstall Skype, IE7 goes back to normal operations. Otherwise, my Skype works fine. Any suggestions?

socco23 | Tuesday, Oct 2

With Skype 3.5 installed, when I go to IE7, it keeps on opening new SKYPE help files indefinitely until I stop it and close IE7.
Is Microsoft blocking or has Skype not yet figured it out ? You guys should have the source codes by now.

Finally, after months of not being able to use my SKPYE account due to incompatiability with Windows Vista, it finally works. I read a posting somewhere online which suggested uninstalling the audio drives, rebooting, and allowing the drives reinstallation to happen upon the restart. With my fingers crossed I did this, and to my surprise I can now, not only hear a caller, but can be heard on the call.

satya2007 | Friday, Oct 12

I just downloaded skype 3.5 on Windows Vista. On a call, I only see a green screen instead of video when communicating with somebody. Though, when I take a snapshot I see the other party perfect!!!

I've downloaded skype on a news Vista machine but the installation just stops. What to do?

jarnson | Thursday, Oct 25

I am also using window vista, when I newly bought this computer, I could use Skype properly, but then, it crashed with my internet exlporer some days later. When I tried to re-install the old one setup, crash still exsists. When I tried to install 3.5 on the page which technical support instructed me, I experienced the same error:
"C:\Users\tipu\Desktop\SkypeSetup.exe is not a valid Win32 application"
When I installed 3.5.0.229, it runs, but crashes with IE again.
What should I do?

mrscarrot | Thursday, Oct 25

I confirm the problem reported by "dkbobo" above on Aug 23:

I have the latest Skype 3.5.0239 on Windows Vista Ultimate.
If I quit Skype I cannot start it up again later, unless I restart my computer.
I can also not log out, e.g. to allow someone else to log in.
The Skype icon stays on in the task bar, and the Skype.exe process in the task manager cannot be stopped (it also keeps more than 65000 k of RAM occupied).
The skypePM.exe Extras Manager process can be ended, but not skype.exe, and I have to restart the computer to start Skype again.

This has been going on since I started using Vista 4 weeks ago. Reinstalling Skype has not solved it.
All drivers in Vista etc are up to date.

Since 3 days I have an additional problem: the web cam freezes after usually 1 or 2 minutes. I can still see the other person's video, and the Logitech QuickCam software also keeps working, but not with Skype.

I don't think this is related but for matters of completeness: After reinstalling the newest Logitech drivers, when starting Skype a popup asks whether I want to allow Logitech Communication_Helper.exe to use Skype. I tried both, allowing it, and a day later, not allowing it, both with the same results.
In one case Skype even got stuck when someone called me and the ringtone went on a constant loopback ...

As capitalized by "dkbobo" above:
THIS IS THE ONLY PROGRAM I AM EXPERIENCING SUCH SEVERE ERRORS WITH!
This should be fixed ASAP, .. one has to be able to quit an application, and start it again when demanded.

I know you are working hard on updating Skype for Vista, but please inform us, your PAYING and loyal customers, where things stand!

dj-tel | Friday, Oct 26

I can absolutely agree with posts above. Exactly same problems as dj-tel. I use Skype for business, and really like it--however, these bugs are very annoying. Please, come up with an effective solution!

Thanks and kind regards, Bob

I am using Vist Home edition and also found when I downloaded the latest version of skype I was unable to log in and I couldn't get onto the web. I then unistalled it and used my external hard drive(by Acomdata) which has an older version of Skype (2.0069) on it and I am using Skype directly from that drive not my Dell E520.

Question, if I were to upgrate this verion to 3.5 on the external hard drive would it work?

Thanks

gillian1402 | Friday, Nov 2

i just bought a new laptop with Vista on it. i had skype 3.2 saved as a file on my external drive so i just installed that.
all went well after tweaking a few settings. good picture, good sound. cant complain.

checked the site to see if there was a newer version and it told me 3.5 is the one to have for vista or another "beta" one i think it was. tried downloading it but got the recurring "not a win32" so i checked here to see how others were handling it and what was the best one to have, well, i think il be stickin with 3.2. thank god for that error!!

try 3.2 folks. oh and if theres problems with IE7, why not just run mozilla firefox? i find it faster and its definately more secure and also has the bonus of lots of surprisingly handy add-ons.

good luck folks
dave

if 3.2 isnt available anymore email me and il send it to you pyromanic78@hotmail.co.uk

pyromanic78 | Monday, Nov 5

3.5 will not work video and sound with Vista. Uninstall and install 3.2 and it does (although it is not perfect as it ignores sound settings).

I had no porblem with Skype and XP SP2. After instaling Vista - can not use. During test call the sound is of very poor quality, interrupted and so is with my voice. It looks like Skype is very, very slow. I have the newest drivers and Vista updates. Skype 3.5 and 3.6_Beta have same problems.
What can I do??????

I'm using Vista with Skype and it seems that the memory usage goes all the way up to 100% when I use Skype talk, the other person hears echos and some words are omitted. Is there a way to remedy this, I can provide more data if necessary, but I don't really know what I need to provide.

I'm using Vista since May, my hardware works well with this new OS, along with the software which I uses before with XP. But my Skype cannot continue during the installation process. So I go to the forum site of Skype, I download the Skype frm the link that was instructed. It's working. My question is this, why until now Skype does not officially announce that there product can support the new OS which is Vista, inspite that Skype had made several major update since Vista was release to the public, in fact this OS had almost reach 1 yr frm the date it was release? Almost all software manufaturer had upgrade & update there software. Until when? Many of us expecting frm you, thks.

Hey guys, I have a new Dell laptop with Vista, and had the same problem with Skype, in that the anyone I was talking to couldn't hear me. But it wasn't skype, it was the microphone jack on new Dell laptops, so I had to re-install the driver off the Dell website and now the microphone works!
Hope this helps someone!

I have Vista and my skype will work 50% of the time. People can hear me, see me fine and visa versa.

The problem I am having is this, when I log into Skype my internet stops working and I have to shut skype down and then log into internet explorer multiple times before it will recognize my connection again.

I am running Skype v3.6 on an Acer Aspire M1610 desktop running the Vista Home Premium OS with an Intel Pentium Dual Core E2140 processor running at 1.6GHz, 2GB RAM, an SiS Mirage 3 Graphic card, and using a Creative Labs Live! Cam Video IM webcam which supports 30 frames/sec video at 640x480 resolution. No problems with Skype-to-Skype or Skype Out using audio only or when the other party does not have video. However, when connected Skype-to-Skype with a contact using a new iMac having a 2.16GHz Intel Dual Core processor and a built-in 640x480 resolution camera, my connection repeatedly-after about 5 min-was broken and my desktop lockedup requiring a hard reboot.

I am having similar problems as the other Vista users. I installed skype 3.6 and everytime i run it it freezes up my internet connection. When i turn Skype off i reset the connection and the internet works again. but Skype crashes. I have Vista home edition on HP pavilion tx1000. I also have Comcast McAfee, as does one other user that posted. Is there a particular setting i can turn off in McAfee that will allow me to use Skype. I've been user Skype for years now and do not want to stop using the program because of Vista.

When you are downloading the skype software, you need to press save first and save it to your computer to ensure skype is downloaded and so you don't receive the win32 application error message

My sound output works properly with Vista, but not my input (using the microphone on the stereo Skype headset). I also keep getting a message which says Skype not being able to hear my audio input. Do I need to install a different microphone driver? If so, where can I find this?

Your assistance is very welcome.

I have Skype Pro and am running it on a laptop with Vista.
My skype version is at 3.6.0.248.
My problem is that when I initiate a conference call (normally about 5 people, but sometimes up to 10), I often have very bad sound and lots of static, making it just about useless to use for conferencing. This is very troubling because I rely on it, and had great success with it on my previous laptop running windows XP. (That laptop was stolen and the new one I had to get came with Vista). Needless to say, I blame vista, and assume
