Skype 4.0 Beta 3 for Windows hotfix
By
Raul on January 7, 2009 in Skype for Windows, Skype for Windows beta.
Today we are ready to ship to you an updated version of Skype 4.0 Beta 3 for Windows.
With this update we have included some features from Skype 3.8 for Windows which have not yet been part of the 4.0 series. In addition we have added an option to disable uPnp and Nat-PMP port mapping, because some of our users were asking for it.
That's not all. Starting from this version we've included the new Super Wideband Audio codec. This is our second in-house built audio codec especially designed for calls over the internet with superb quality. The Super Wideband Audio codec will help you most on lousy network conditions and when you have lower bandwidth available, although it also improves quality in normal conditions too.
We recommend that everyone who is already using 4.0 beta versions to upgrade to this build and welcome everyone else to try out this new version.
You can download the 4.0 beta 3 hotfix from here. Please keep in mind that it is still a beta version which might have some mysteries hidden under the surface.
Please let us know if you happen to be the lucky finder of any hidden mysteries
. You can inform us about problems in our public issue tracker. You are also welcomed to discuss things on Skype Community or just leave us a note on our feedback page.

Comments
I have tried Skype beta 4.0.0.181 for Windows
and found out several minor errors in User Interface implementation:
1) within chat, I can not find an option to edit my sent messages (was in 3.8 version, by right-mouse-click, very useful!)
2) within chat, I can not find an option to change font size nor change chat layout (both was in 3.8 version). Current layout looks nice for short messages ("hello world":) but no good for larger messages (say 3-5 lines).
-- Well, finally found in Tools->Optins->IM & SMS-> IM appearance, but it seems hard to find.
3) in contact list v 3.8, we could find the date the offline contact was last time online by moving the mouse on the contact string, currently not.
4) a couple of dozens of messages are not localized (I change language to Russian) - english words happens among russian words. (This problem can be related to most localizations).
5) in Skype->Account... menu, after logging on, the resulting window is not resized properly for different localizations. Seems OK for English, but Russian words are generally longer so the window width should be expanded manually by mouse. (And "Maximize" button is disabled for some reason).
6) in Tools -> Options, "Video Settings" happens to be twice (within "General" and "Call" sections).
7) Skype suggests, beeng disabled within Options, still displayed in contact list (and such messages on yellow do not resized in width together with resizing contact list).

Skype's new wideband codek when it works is great, but for no aprrent reason it changes to a worse sounding audio bitrate or whatever then I've ever heard in skype randomly for certain people who by the way don't have banwith issues. Is there a way to force usage no matter what? We do podcast recordings through skype

it seems that in this version "skype 4" it's impossible to see who is online when you look for skype users: it's that true? Thank you
