Skype and Windows 7
By
Raul on October 22, 2009 in Skype for Windows.

Many of you have asked about Skype and Windows 7 - and I'm happy to announce that Skype 4.1 is certified as being compatible with Windows 7.
If you don't already have the latest version, you should download it now - it now includes screen sharing as well as improved audio and video quality.
In a future version of Skype for Windows we plan to introduce features which integrate with the improved taskbar and jumplist functions within Windows 7.

Comments
Skype for Windows v4.x is BAD and HATE.

I upgraded my Windows Vista to Windows 7 and Skype isn't working. It works for a few minutes and then it stops. It almost "freezes" saying that it's processing my message, but it never does and then I can't get back on Skype once I sign out.

Hellow,
i dont know where to write so i'll write it here.
Feature to be useful on next skype:
now it is possible to change ones contacts name but if you do this you never see what is the present name choose by the contact. It would be very useful if it would be written somewhere in the brackets or other place.
Thx

I agree to n-yoshi. I hate 4.1 as well. Looks awful like a program for kids and is very unclear. I simply just hate the icons that changed! Good functions also got erased (chat topic, picture).
I stay with 3.8 and recommend it to my friends which mostly now also use 3.8.
Cant wait to see 4.2 or even better 3.9!!!

I have been using Skype on Windows 7 before the official launch and since. The only issues I have come accross is the usual MS operating system ones like looks as if the OS has found the hardware (say my webcam) but for some reason it doesnt work. After finding new drivers for harware specifically for 7 all is good. Windows 7 is very particular about drivers. Skype however rules. I call all over the world on Skype out and also on Skype in and nothing compares for quality and clarity of both voice and video. I really challange anyone to find a better product to do all the things that Skype offer !!!

Man, I have spent most of Sunday trying to get a Philips VOIP321 to work with Windows 7. Worked like a dream on XP before.
I downloaded the Vista version drivers and installed ok. Skype 4.1 actually asks if it is ok to use Philips VOIP321..... Click ok, but it never actually works. Contacts on the phone are unavailable.
Has anybody managed to get this phone working on W7?

Just installed Win 7 home premium. Got Skype 4.1 installed as well. Now Skype signs in (I can hear the sound), but it sits in the task bar and I cannot maximize the program.
I have tried re-installing skype and also older versions. Same result. When I hold the mouse over the skype icon, the main skype screen is displayed, but then I click on it, nothing happens.
Any suggestions?

Just switched from Windows XP to Windows 7 clean install. Installed Skype 4.1. Freezes after I type a few characters into chat window. Then tried running in compatibility mode for Win XP SP 3 (the OS that Skype worked fine in on this PC), but that did not help. PC Specs: Core I5, MSI P55-GD65 motherboard, 4 GB RAM, Nvidia GTX 275, Windows 7 Ultimate N 32-bit.

On my new Win 7 Pro x64 computer, when I select "start Skype when I start windows" in Tools/options/General settings and press save, it does not remember, when I go back in, the box is unticked.

Dear Mr. Skype,
You have a problem with Windows 7 32 bit and 64 bit versions. It may work for most people, but enough of us are having problems that you need to fix it. In particular, there are sound problems cutting in and out. Please release a stable version of Skype that is compatible with Windows 7 32 bit and 64 bit.
Thanks

Not sure if this will be seen or even help but yes, Skype does work with Windows 7 x64 and even starts up without any issues. The problem I'm having is Skype will not remain running after boot up and once Windows has cycled through all the processes and maybe a couple minutes later, Skype just turns off. The only way for me to verify this is by hovering my mouse cursor over the Skype icon in the task bar at the bottom right; the icon just disappears. I then have to manually restart Skype which starts up just fine and runs without issues.
The command line in "msconfig" says: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe" /nosplash /minimized
I tried changing this line to remove the forward slash commands and then change my UAC to "Never Notify" which did not work. While Skype v4.1 does work in Windows 7, it appears there is some error with it starting up properly and remaining on after boot up. Checking the Event Viewer, and here is what is listed:
Faulting application name: Skype.exe, version: 4.1.0.179, time stamp: 0x4acf0be1
Faulting module name: RPCRT4.dll, version: 6.1.7600.16385, time stamp: 0x4a5bdb3b
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x0003b565
Faulting process id: 0x890
Faulting application start time: 0x01ca67b8ce4bf585

Report Id: 51d1f925-d3ac-11de-bd18-001fd09ead16
Error ID is 1000 which was sent to Windows and nothing came up upon search. It would appear this is a fairly new issue which may need to be considered or investigated. Skype folks, you have my info, feel free to email or contact me if you need more data/information. Hope this helps.

I am also experiencing problem when running Skype 4.1.0.179 under Window 7. I bought a brand new computer with the latest Window 7, and installed the latest Skype. However, upon starting Skype, it will shut down randomly. A message from Window saying something that a "problem has occured with the software" and so needs to be shut down. Upon restarting Skype, the problem would appear again rapidly.
I contacted customer support, and those idiots kept asking me to reinstall the new Skype, which I was already using. I finally gave up and reinstalled as instructed, but the problem persisted. I am SURE it is a bug in Skype!!

Windows 7 running on a Dell Inspiron. Calls can be initiated but cannot be answered. Caller sees connection drop but windows 7 and skype 4.x continues to ring. Only way out is to kill skype with task manager or reboot. Skype sometimes works after reboot, other times not. Solution?

Skypr 4.1 works ok with Windows 7 64 bit, but the microphone output is spotty. Receivers say that my voice keeps cutting out, but the audio out is ok. Google Talk uses the mic ok, so perhaps an audio driver problem with my new HP G60 laptop.

I upgraded to Windows 7, and the latest version of Skype no longer works on my computer. I've tried everything, including reinstalling, as well as searching for updates. I've tried updating all my drivers, and still, Skype will either not connect to the internet (that I do have, since I can load webpages and things) or it will drop a video call after only a couple of minutes.
Is Skype working on a fix for this? Is this a common problem? Or is there something I can do?

I'm sorry, my English is very bad.
I have the same problems and by practical found the following.
These problems on 90 % is a network problems.
Try this.
1. Update firmware of yours ADSL/Cable/WiFi equipment.
2. In the network card properties take off IPv6 protocol. Also set IPv4 address to static and specify DNS addresses.
3. In Skype disable UPnP (Tools-Options-Advanced-Connection)
4. Before start Skype execute a command ipconfig/renew

I have windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. I have tried logitech fusion and 9000 cameras. I have installed drivers for these cameras from different locations. I have uninstalled/installed Skype countless times...I have the same problem as many above...I initiate a call, my recipient can see me calling but can't answer and I can't end the call from my end so I have continuous ringing until I stop the process in task manager.
If so many of us have the same problem, why won't Skype and/or logitech at least acknowledge the flaw and release a fix. With the amount they have spent on lawyers this last year you'd think they would be able to cough up a few dollars to have someone write the code to fix this. Come on Skype...Get your act together!
If someone has found a good solution to this problem..please share. Thanks.
