What are you using Video for?
By
Nicola on September 7, 2006 in Skype for Mac.
It's been a while since we announced the Video Preview of Skype for Mac and we're all very curious in the Mac team to find out more about how you're using it. Who do you video call with? Has it helped you to keep love alive across the miles? Or to re-connect with long lost family? Are you making new friends in new far flung places? Tell us more, we're dying to hear all about it. Please send us all of your Mac video stories.
If you're not using the Video preview yet download it now

My kids use it to chat to granny - normally we use iChat, but granny has a PC and this is the first good cross platform solution that doesn't cost that I've come across.

To see my girlfriend 60 miles away from me during the week. This helps us a lot!

We also use it to talk to those friends, who for what unfathomable reason, are using PC's. Thank you very much. How long to the next update?

In addition to Mac to PC video connections, Skype video is useful in situations where iChat doesn't work between two particular Macs.

I use it talk to my kids when I can't be home before they go to sleep. I also use it to speak to a remote office in Kiev. In both cases, the other end is a PC.

My girlfriend lives 100 miles away, and video chat is definitely nice to when we are not able to be in the same location (and yes, she has a MacBook).
In addition, I do a bit of IT training over Skype (and VNC), and eventually video will be a good add-on to that.

I'm living in Canada on a teacher exchange program for 12 months from Australia. I brought a Windows PC with me, but it broke and I upgraded to a MacBook Pro. My biggest disappointment was not being able to videocall to my family and friends back home in Australia. MSN didn't support video on the Mac, and no one I know back there uses a Mac so iChat was of little use to me. I was hanging out for the video upgrade to Mac Skype! Overall, it works beautifully. It occasionally loses sync between the video and the audio, but only occasionally. Picture quality is excellent using the inbuilt iSight camera and I've had lots of compliments on the picture quality. It's so nice to be able to get face to face with my family and friends! Thanks Skype.

I'm using it to chat with my girlfriend, my parents, my boss and my friends!
The wonderful thing is: it does not matter wether they are using an ordinary windows pc or not. It just works, what is great since most people get confused with "geekstuff" quite fast
THANKS BIG SKYPE!

Me and my friends had a aliitle chat with a friend of us who is in China right now, it ended in a party where the one crowd was sitting in Germany speaking with the other half in China.

I use Skype video to chat with my boyfriend back home in Germany while I live and work in Florida. It is the best way of keeping a long distance relationship alive... I don't know whether it would work out if we wouldn't have the chance of seeing us so oft online. It is great!!! Now I'm just waiting to be able to send him SMS via Skype...

I and the rest of the family talked to my sister in Thailand for my birthday. She didn't have a camera but saw us really well and sent us screenshots. We had a great time talking fine for over half an hour. To hear her voice when she saw us was great
)) She lives so far away she only sees us once a year, so for her especially it was wonderful. Thanks so much Skype and sorry for being so impatient before the release.....!

I have been using Skype for a short time, but was hooked the first time I used it.
Last weekend we had a family party with only one person missing (in New York). Everyone took turns video chatting with our far away cousin. Christmas presents for the whole family will be "camera/mic" for their computers. I have been seeing a lot of the terms SMS lately; will someone tell me what this is and how it functions?

My wife uses it to video call her parents who live in Colombo, Sri Lanka (we live in Altoona, Pennsylvania) It has saved us a ton of money on regular phone calls and is so much more fun than talking on the phone.

I live in mexico and use it to keep in touch with my PC using sister in California, my dad in Bolivia, my best friend in Alabama permanently. My husband was in NewYork for a month last year and Skype really helped us up. It´s a great tool to keep close to those who aren´t.

I used it once to join the kids of a friend of mine at dinner. She put her PowerBook on the dinnertable, and we were all eating dinner together!
