Skype 2.7 for Mac is here.

Update: We’ve just released a beta version of Skype 2.8 for Mac
Ok, I'll admit - I really
this version. Today we released Skype 2.7 for Mac, and it has just the kind of features that us, Mac users, love. In our last version, we made Skype sound better, and in Skype 2.7 we've made it look better. We've enabled improved video quality on all the current Mac desktops or laptops. We've also introduced a feature you've all been asking for: contact grouping. With this version you will now be able to group your friends and family so you can keep an eye on those you care about.
Not only have we made it look good, but we've introduced my favourite feature of Skype for Mac after video: address book integration. This feature will save you loads of time -- you can now see someone who is in your address book from within Skype's contact list and be able to call them directly. And don't worry, these numbers are not sent to anyone or stored on any Skype servers. We're only displaying those that exist on your own computer.
We've made it better and easier to use. We've streamlined the way you send and receive files so they are all grouped within the new file transfer manager, we've introduced the ability to automatically redial busy numbers (so now you can get through to those pesky radio competition hotlines), and made it easier to change your volume and audio settings whilst you're in a call.
We haven't forgotten about the quality of Skype for Mac either -- we've fixed a whole load of bugs, Skype for Mac is now available in русский язык (Russian), Čeština (Czech) or Norsk (Norwegian Bokmål) - thanks to Igor, Lukáš and Kenneth.
Best of all, Leopard users will purr since its ready for Mac OS 10.5 Leopard.
Download the new Skype for Mac and let us know what you think of it by commenting this post or forums.

I have had the pleasure of testing v2.7 over the past few months. It has come a long way since the November public beta. It's super-stable and the video quality is fantastic. Go Skype! This is definitely the best Skype for Mac release ever produced.

Don't know about you guys but ever since this upgrade came into place, my VOIP USB phone no longer works with Skype.
I can use the Mac no problem, but as soon as I plug the phone in I get Recording error and it wont ring anyone.
Any ideas?

On Thursday morning, before I downloaded the new version for Mac the audio on my end of my SKYPE OUT UNLIMITED stopped working. Had just received email that my unlimited was expiring and that I had to switch to SKYPE PRO..but I already have it. Checked for updates and saw new version so d/loaded. Same problems for three days now. Make Skype test calls day and night and they are getting better. I actually hear her voice whole time and not getting error messages and dropped calls so much but there is still a delay in playback of my voice and then it is chopped up. No one can hear me when I make any SKYPE OUT calls. SKYPE TO SKYPE works fine, just talked to florida from arizona and he heard me fine. I recorded my voice in garage band and everying on mac is working. I have also d/loaded it a 2nd time hoping there was a glitch first time but nothing has changed. I have sent in about 5 tickets and got response friday morning but have not heard anything since. Would really like to hear back from someone to see if it is being fixed or even addressed and also when it does get fixed will I still have SKYPE OUT with my SKYPE PRO after my UNLIMITED expires? thank you

The video is broken on my new mini. I have a Canon HV20 (in DV mode) hooked up via firewire. The video shows just fine in preferences, but neither audio (from the camera) or video actually works in a call. I'm on a 1.83Ghz Core2Duo Mini under 10.4.11 (going to do the Leopard upgrade after I get a bigger HD).
So what gives? Anyone else able to use a FW camera with 2.7? It seems to be broken.

I'm having issues with the latest version on my iMac 1.83 Duo running Leopard (10.5.2) and have run Software Update today. I had the same issue with one of the 2.6 builds, but it doesn't seem to have resolved. I use the built-in iSight camera, but Skype no longer recognizes it (it doesn't turn on and in video prefs it says no camera is connected). I've checked it in other applications and the camera works fine. Any idea what's going on of if there will be a fix soon? Thanks!

I have the same problem as I think erimacrib is describing. When I login, the connection window shows that's it's connecting forever. The contacts display never comes up. But I do get online and people can invite me to chat or voice. I can also access the list of people online from the menus. But the display is broken.

I have a Mac computer running 10.3.9. Yesterday, at the suggestion of Skype, I upgraded from version 2.6 to 2.7.
The program doesn't work now. All I get is the "The application Skype has unexpectedly quit" error message.
I cannot find the older version of Skype (2.6) anywhere on the web. I would be very appreciative if someone could direct me to a site that still has the older version.

The new Skype 2.7 works fine for me on my MacBook (Mac OS 10.5.2) but one thing I'm a little surprised. The CPU fan barely "roars" when I have a video chat on my screen. I don't know if that is due to the high definition video but I really would like to know if my Laptop could eventualy turn in a fire if I videochat for a couple of hours.
Thanks, you guys are doing a great job!

je_wallace isn't the only one. My skype is incredibly slow...and takes forever to process information of any kind, whether it's opening chat, placing a call...that rainbow curser's popping up alot whenever I use this app.

why are skype-mac-updates often buggy and bring us just problems?
HELLO? is there anybody out there knowing what he's doing? ...
Skypecalls ring ring ring althoug my contact has already answered my call! Voice-Conferences just show the first person in call-window. The main-window's grafix (buttons etc) are not placed well if the windows was resized to another format. etc etc.... D4MN! Whats up?
I WANT DO DOWNGRADE. Where can i get the 2.6 or 2.5 Version??

Hello, I was in com with Ryan regarding the 2.7. Download the 2.7 on the net only, me I did it on softpedia but you can find it on most places. So, no first bugs. That is a good sign. You can installed it. I will test the rest. Ryan will also provide a link for the 2.6 if you need to go back. A tip: keep the DMG of the last version on your HD always on what heas been installed.
MAC user are nice people, isn't it? So be smart and help developpers to help you to do soft on MAC for OUR use. I'm helping also ISOFTPHONE and they are correcting the soft based on how i'm using it. Be patient, Clear and nice as MAC user ARE.
Recently, I did upgrade my leaopard up to 10.5.3, so I guess that the last version was not fitting with skype?

@erimacrib
Yes, you're right. MAC users ARE nice, cool, smart...etc...
But who will speak any "clear" words to the developers if they even don't read "clearly" bugreports? I have reported - nice, clear and smart - some bugs which definately should NOT be in a 2.7 Version of ANY programm. So. Maybe I AM the one who is speaking some helpful and accrelating words to the developers, because they seem more to play with photobooth than to have two eyes on the developement.
to say it in clear words: i like to help, but if no one listens... what do you think we (users) should do? ha? get the idea?
Of course i keep the previous Version (.dmg) but since skype is updating automatically, there is no need to download the .dmg file. So - from now on, i will always extra download the .dmg
perfect process.
ok, when and where will Ryan post the link to 2.6 ???

2.7.0257 Buggy!?
updating to Skype 2.7.0257 Freezes / crashes my macbook pro 2.2Ghz when I am in video calls. It is sporadic and creates no crash-log.
My macbook pro had never crashed before, but since installing and using Skype 2.7 it has crashed 2 times within 2 weeks; requiring hard restarts. (noticed it freezes up the system occasionally but recovers after ~20 seconds, usually when I am moving my preview window).
also (maybe related) uses up excessive amounts of %CPU (80-90%) on a duo-core.
(you can find 2.6 using a google search.)

I'm a recent convert to a Mac, and have installed Skype 2.6. The hardest thing to get used to is that when a chat message is received, with IE, the Skype bar in the taskbar stayed highlighted so I could quickly go to the waiting chat message; but with Mac, after a few seconds of bouncing, the Skype logo on my task bar stops bouncing, and I have no idea I have a waiting message. As I generally have many concurrent conversations, this is highly useful. Is there another way to leave a permanent notification on the Skype icon if there is a message waiting?

I am in Kunming China. I have a macbook pro using OS X 10.5.2. I have been unable to use Skype Out (Misc error #1003) since I arrived 2 weeks ago. Yesterday, I downloaded and installed the latest version, Skype 2.7.0.257 (hoping to fix the Skype Out problem). Since then, I have been unable to log onto skype (circular arrows spin indefinitely on log on page - or message - "Unable to connect to server"). Of course, its hard to know whether coincidentally, my Chinese DSN server was changed to one that blocks Skype, but I think it would be too much of a coincidence. I think that somehow the new version makes it impossible to log on. I really depend on Skype to connect to my family and friends in U.S. and China.
Summary, I downloaded the latest version, and now am unable to log on.

Hi,
I am a power Skype user for business. So here is some feedback on how to improve productivity:
1. Keyboard shortcuts. The shortcuts available on Windows are a life savior, it would be great to see them on Mac.
2. Start Conference Call desn't allow typing in a SkypeOut number. The Windows version does.
3. Sometimes, the Invite to Conference option is grayed out on a second call.
4. Touch tones are disabled in conference mode, which is frustrating.
5. Group contacts UI is less intuitive and more invasive than the Windows implementation.
6. Contact list UI: I need to click twice on a contact to see their details and get access to the call button. There is also a delay before the contact details appear after the second click. It would be more intuitive to only need to click once.
7. Display Technical Info: I would prefer the technical info window to appear upon a button press or mouse hover, rather than automatically.

I've downloaded 2.7 twice now. Downloads fine, everything works until I click on Skype in the application folder as instructed and then - nothing. It doesn't open. And I don't have 2.6 so until you fix it I'm off Skype

I'm the same except that mine gets stuck on the login window. At first glance, it appears that Skype is signing in perpetually, the phonebook doesn't appear it just stays on the login screen with the grey arrows moving. However, on closer inspection I can in fact go into the menu items and start using the account features only available when I'm logged in. So whilst I can create new contacts, call numbers and even sms, I can't call other skype users or anyone in my phone book because the login screen is stuck in its loop. I've downloaded 2.7 three times, even tried restarting between installation and first run. I've also reported this on the faults register.

Can't get it to work. It looks like it's constantly trying to sign in, but never makes it.

Skype doesn't install the OS X Address Book Plug-in anymore on my MacBook Pro running 10.5.2, so I can't dial from address book entries and have to resort to enabling the address book support in Skype, search for the name of the person, and click dial. This is really a step backward.
fredng | Friday, Apr 4
Hi, I am running Skype 2.7.0.257 with the latest Leopard. I find that the address book entries all show up just fine but if I try to call any number I get a message that the number doesn't exist. If I type in the number from the pad the call goes through just fine.
macfusion | Tuesday, Apr 8
Well, I could be wrong about this but in the experimenting I've done, using the pad to dial a number works (and I've got the preference for adding 1 to the number for the US turned on) but if I just hit the green phone symbol or select call from the contact list the 1 doesn't show up and the result is to say the number does not exist

I'm frustrated with Skype. Whats the point of buying your own number if you cant turn on caller identification?
tim_andren | Thursday, Apr 24
I think this version is a great update from what we had and I appreciate the nice, clean aesthetics of Skype for Mac OS. That said, it is very frustrating that there is not feature parity with the windows version. The feature I'm thinking of specifically is video conferencing, or multi-user video chat, but there is a score of others. Keep up the good work but know that your non-microsoft users are really looking for some equality here (at least for features they can keep the clunky interface).
joeljrichards | Sunday, Apr 27
A lot of people seem to be having similar problems.
I've got a Macbook Pro with OS X 10.5.2. I'm on a college network, and have happily used skype (with Authoxy, to deal with the authenticating proxy on the network) for Skype-to-Skype, SkypeOut, SMS, and video chats for almost two years. Once I upgraded to the latest version, everything stopped working! "Sign in Error" - "Failed to sign in: Unable to connect to Skype P2P network". I have tried uninstalling Skype, and reinstalling -- no joy. I have tried uninstalling and then installing older versions of skype -- no joy. I have tried uninstalling Authoxy and reinstalling the latest version -- no joy. Reverting to older versions of Authoxy -- still no joy! It's not a network issue because other mac users on the network are still using skype. I hate to say it, but I might have to start looking for other options, which is sad because of how much I liked Skype! It all started with the upgrade to this version.

PROBLEM SOLVED: "Sign in Error" - "Failed to sign in: Unable to connect to Skype P2P network"
Three emails later from the support team -- and about 8 suggested solutions, including 'delete and reinstall' and 'have College open ALL network ports' -- and Skype is logging in again, after the update.
This was the suggestion that worked (and hopefully it will help others):
*** In case of a login failure after an upgrade you could also try to reset your Skype connection routing information by deleting shared.xml. The procedure is as follows: ***
1. Quit Skype
2. Go to the folder ~/Library/Application Support/Skype/
3. Delete the file "shared.xml"
4. Start Skype
Thank heaven! But mostly thank Mihkel S. - Skype support.

why are we not able to IM contacts using Bonjour protocol with other IM clients (ichat, pidgin, MSN)?
ovipas | Wednesday, Apr 30
Well even with the latest version of Skype (2.7.0.257) and latest version of Leopard 10.5.2, the two are not working together correctly.
I don't know what is the other users' experience, but SKYPE is the only SW that freezes my machine completely... it needs a hard reset to get back to work.
I have even tried to do a full rebuild of the machine (GOSH hadn't had to resort to such measure in a long time) but nothing.... still freezes.
NOT even office 2007 manages to do such a thing. First time I experience this on a mac, and I have been on macs for about 6 years, since I switched from XP.
I am thinking of not using Skype anymore.... unless there is a prompt response from the Team to solve the problem.
I sincerely hope that the Skype team realizes that developing for Mac is a bit of a challenge, since the users are NOT USED to having the machine freeze like with other OS. Mac OS is very robust, but of course not infallible, and it is the SW producer responsibility to develop up to a certain standard.
I hope that Skype SW will meet MAC user's expectation on quality.
Thank you Skype Team

At first I was really happy about the address book integration, but now it's getting buggier and buggier. I entered new address book entries, and it used to be that I needed to make sure I hit the "edit" button again in Address book in order to see them pop up in Skype about 3 seconds later.
Not anymore.
Now they frequently don't pop up at all. Some contacts seem to "go through" just fine, but others never appear. Yet other show some entries but not others. No correlation, no rhyme or reason, just buggy as hell.
A HUGE pain, and another unreliable feature in Skype.
I still get duplicate voicemail entries (delete one and have the misfortune of clicking on the other and Skype is taking your computer DOWN my friends), and the random hangs when Skype gets unhappy.
Not my other apps, just Skype.
I'm getting rather tired of this. If you're going to keep this proprietary, then at least get it RIGHT, people.
And these feature lags behind windoze isn't winning you any friends, either.

You know, it's kinda sad that there wasn't more development (especially bug fixing and feature synch with the windows version) for Skype for Mac.. But I'm sure you people know what you're doing. Until you make up your minds, I'm switching to Yahoo for Video, because it may be not the best tool either, but at least it's STABLE. Bye bye.

regarding Skype freezing macs...I have Skype 2.7.0.257 on a MBP 2.33 Core2Duo with 2GB RAM and Leopard 10.5.2. I only have freeze issues when running video chat and moving the small video picture of myself around the window with the video of the other person. It has happened three times, always when moving my picture. It never happens at the beginning of a call--usually after 10 minutes or more. And it freezes my entire computer--no mouse, keyboard, nothing. Not even a spinning beach ball--the mouse arrow looks normal but is frozen. I have to hard-reboot to regain control. Of interest, upon a freeze, the Skype call audio will continue, but the audio progressively gets worse until it disconnects. Meanwhile, the fan in my computer starts accelerating, indicating that the CPU is doing a lot of work. I shut down each time after a minute or two (and before the CPU could overheat!). I think that this problem surfaced after I installed Office 2008. I don't know if its related, but I had Word running each time there was a crash. Could be pure coincidence, but as crash-prone as Office is, there may be a connection. Sure hope Skype can fix this, as it's annoying to have a complete hard freeze on the computer.

First I just end up in a loop, I sign in and all I get is advertisements inviting me to Download now! buy credit! buy a Skype phone do this do that, use Skype NOW!
But impossible to get to the page where you CAN use Skype - not possible to get to the contacts list etc. So I see this post and download version 2.7, no the ONLY think I see is my contacts list, no other features visible, I cannot buy Skype out credit or anything so from one extreme to the other - in a word USELESS!

The integration of the Mac Address Book into the Skype Contact List is a wonderful feature ... except I would like to see an option added to flag contacts you want to have kept on the Skype server (at least Name and Phone Number). I use Skype from both my Mac and my PC which means that I have to duplicate the Skype contacts I want to see on my PC and on any other computer. Unfortunately, I didn't realize the Contacts added from my Address Book would be local to my MacBook so I deleted all of my previous Skype entries, which now means I have to enter about 60 Contacts again, and they now appear twice in my Skype Contacts List. If I could identify which contacts in my Address Book I wanted to be uploaded to the Skype servers, and if they were updated when they were changed, that would be a useful step towards a more complete integration. This is certainly not a complaint, just a suggestion from a very satisfied Skypephile.

I just upgraded to Skype version 2.7 (Macbook Pro 2.16GHz Mac OS 10.5.4), as I saw there was a new version and 2.6 unexpectedly quit now and then, but otherwise worked fine. Now when I run 2.7 my fan runs full blast!!!! It's very loud and annoying, so much I don't want to Skype anymore. Another thing is Skype doesn't recognize the microphone of an external firewire video camera. iChat does recognize it, so we have it connected correctly. Please help. I can't find version 2.6 of Skype anywhere, can someone post a link to where I can download it?
Thank you!!!

I have downloaded the Skype 2.7 as the ad.prompted me to try the "new version". I got myself in big trouble: I am unable to launch Skype now; it keeps bouncing back to the Application storage (the older version worked beautifully, which, unfortunately, I deleted).
I also have a running account and have been using Skype for years.
I have an iBook Mac OS 10.4.11 and 800 MHZ G3 with 640 MHZ SDRAM.
How can I fix this problem? Where can I find the older version compatible with this system? Do I have to do everything from scratch or the old/new version will retrieve my password, account, contacts, etc?

@bongolanm: If I had this problem, I would uninstall Skype and try again. GL!

Is there a link to 2.6 so that I can downgrade from 2.7 ? I stupidly upgraded to 2.7 on my 800 MHz G4 iBook and it crashes on launch (wrong CPU subtype ???). I wish I'd kept the old .dmg for 2.6...

To cdnjon in particular or anybody in general - Hi can you pleaseplease let me know what the other 8 possible solutions were for Mac "Unable to connect to Skype P2P network". Upgrades seem to have lead to this and now cannot connect no matter what - have tried the have tried uninstalling and then installing older versions of Skype blah blah but to no avail.
Also tried:
1. Quit Skype
2. Go to the folder ~/Library/Application Support/Skype/
3. Delete the file "shared.xml"
4. Start Skype....
5. Unable to connect to Skype P2P network as usual...
Skype, please offer more FAQ support to mac users - We love Skype but are becoming disillusioned....... h e l p ! !

I'm on an iMac, OS 10.5.5, and recently d/led Skype 2.7.0.330.
So far, I only have two Skype contacts with whom I have been able to talk to. But on both I have the same connection problem. Either calling or answering, my window only shows my video and the other person as an icon. It takes several recalls (incoming or outgoing) to get the initial black window with me in the small lower left insert. Then the black is replaced by the other person.
Am I doing something wrong?

Mine is Mac, too. I have the same problem as others. It's always said: "Failed to sign in: Unable to connect server."
What can I do to fix it?

ghunter1310 | Monday, Jan 5
Hi, I have the same problem as ridongculous (posted on 22 feb 2008) and I can't find a response to the question.
I have a built in isight camera on my new(ish) iMac (I got it in the summer) but Skype won't recognise it. When I go to preferences and choose video it says 'no camera connected'. I've ticked 'enable skype video' but nothing happens.
I've tested the camera in other applications and it works fine in iMovie and Photobooth.
Does anyone know what the problem is and how I can connect it?
Thanks!
Lisa

I can't seem to download Skype 2.7 on my sister's new MacBook Pro. It keeps redirecting to the Windows download site. Are you Skype-types trying to get her to switch to a PC?

where/how/best to store Skype names of contacts in the Mac Address book?

Whenever i use Skype it crashes. it only happens on Mac... never when i use PC. what the heck is going on... i didn't think that it was my Mac until i used my PC again... surely since MAY of last year there would be a more stable update/patch to sort out the crashes that we are all experiencing.
is there something that can be done?
thanks SKype team

I am in Tianjin, China. My Skype is unable to login and keeps giving me the error: "Failed to sign in: unable to connect server". I am a computer retard and just switched over from a PC, so totally not use to all of the mac stuff. If anyone has any suggestions of how to fix this, I would be very grateful. I know that there is another post similar to this on Mar9, but I didn't understand the fix.
Thank you

I just started having this problem... Whenever I get an incoming call the "reject or accept" box does not appear. So now I have no way of answering the call. I always have to call them. How can i fix this? Is there some kind of setting that I need to make sure I have checked. I am on a Mac Book Pro. When I first downloaded skype back in May of 2008, it worked fine and the "accept/reject call" box would appear. Now it doesn't. I am running the latest version of Skype.
Thanks
jen_mank | Friday, Jan 30
@jen_mank did you get the problem after downloading Skype 2.8 Beta? If so, I recommend that you switch back to 2.7.

I'm on new MacBook (aluminum) OS X 10.5.5. I just installed 2.7.0.330.
I get the same message as others do: Failed to sign in: unable to connect to Skype P2P network.
So. first I tested my account on my windows box. That works, so I know it's not my firewall or my account.
Then I uninstalled it, and deleted all the stuff I could find under Library for skype, and reinstalled it. same behavior.
I have no issues with aMSN (with Video) or iChat on my Mac.
My account is an admin account, and I've had no permissions issues with any of the other programs I've installed.
Please research this issue. I'd love to use skype, but only on my Mac.

correction OSX 10.5.6
craigbob99 | Tuesday, Feb 3
Additional information.
I fired up little snitch and launched skype and tried to log in. there is no network activity at all.
When I launch aMSN, iChat, etc I see traffic for those applications.
There is nothing for Skype at all.
My conclusion is that it is definitely not a network issue - it is a Skype program issue - it's not even making it to the network stack on my Mac.

SORRY THIS IS SO LONG, PLEASE HELP!.....
The short summary is I get this message: "Failed to sign in: unable to connect server"
I tried everything ppl suggest above. I still have no luck. For more details see below:
My Story:
I am currently visiting Tianjin , China. I have a MBP and have been using skype for 2 years, with out any problems.
The first day I was in Tianjin my Skype worked fine.
The second day, it worked for 1/2 the day. In the afternoon it automatically logged me out of skype and when I tried to start Skype up again it failed upon log-in.
Skype message read:
"Failed to sign in: unable to connect server"
I thought, maybe I need to download the latest version of Skype, I was running 2.6.?
So I downloaded 2.7... (the latest) ; I put the old one in the Trash and tried to launch the new version of Skype. Upon login, I experienced the same problem: "Failed to sign in: unable to connect server"
That lead me to this forum in hope of an answer. So far the above solutions have NOT worked for me.
I have tried:
1) open skype preferences: disabled "Show Address Book Contacts" - This did not work
2) Quite Skype: Go to the folder ~/Library/Application Support/Skype/ : I deleted the file "shared.xml" - This did not work
3) I then noticed that when I went back to ' the folder ~/Library/Application Support/Skype/' , the file "shared.xml" had re-appeared. I removed it and double checked it was in the Trash this time. That is when I discovered the one I originally deleted was also in the Trash. Thus proving (in my case) upon opening Skype app. the "shared.xml" file is created and placed in the '~/Library/Application Support/Skype/' folder. I triple checked that I was really deleting the "shared.xml" file and repeated above processes. Still failed.
4) I removed the "shared.lck" file that was also in the ' ~/Library/Application Support/Skype/' folder. I tried to open Skype and again the "shared.lck" file re-appears (like the "shared.xml" did) and I still get the message saying: "Failed to sign in: unable to connect server"
I was successfully using Skype on two different networks here in Tianjin (office and hotel) until the problem started 2 days ago. Since the problem has started I have not been able to log in on either of these networks.
I have asked others in the office if they can log into Skype. They were successful. Note: they were using Windows version.
Note: I have not checked if I can log in to my account on their machines, however from reading the forum notes above, it sounds like in other user's case (whom experienced my problem), they were able to log in on another machine, thus so far I assume this would be the case for me too.
Someone please help me ASAP. I use Skype (Pro) and make Skype to Skype and Skype out calls approx. 15mins. / hr for 15hrs each day. Right now I am pulling hair trying to figure out how I can get connected to my customers again. I also have call FWD through my Skype Pro account and it appears people can not call me via this right now either. That said I am unsure if it is related, as I have had some problems receiving txt message to my iPhone the past 24 hrs (started 12 hrs after the Skype issues). I am getting txt msg 5 hrs delayed... not a huge thing. In addition I am experiencing terrible battery life with my iPhone, this started at the same time as the txt msg problem and I can not fix the issue no matter how long I charge for, the battery lasts only 3-4 hrs, in stand-by mode. Until now my iPhone has worked fine.
My communication world is falling apart. No-one can call me, and I can't call them.... HELP !

I have Skype 2.7 installed without problems on my MacBook. I have a bluetooth headset synched properly. When using Skype Out I hear the other party clearly and without distortion. But the other party either a) experiences very poor reception or b) hears only static. Can you suggest a remedy?
djsimonds | Wednesday, Feb 18
@nathan_kukathas sorry to hear you've had problems signing in to Skype - it sounds like a firewall-related problem, but if others can connect on the same network then that may not be the case.
Make sure you're quitting Skype by choosing Skype > Quit from the menu bar - closing the contact list window doesn't actually quit the app.
@djsimonds I suggest that you point them in the direction of our call quality guide - and if that doesn't do the trick, give me a shout

Wow, reading these comments I feel less alone. I lost my old version of Skype in a system re-install, and now cannot load the new version on either my OS 10.3.9 or 10.4.11.
My sister wants to talk to me! Have a heart and make the old, WORKING version of (Mac) Skype available to all of us again.

Hey guys, sorry to chime in with a problem without directly contributing to a solution, but I have the same problem as manie_grove, wenshuizaixin and ghunter1310: After updating to Skype 2.7 for Mac, I can't connect anymore, getting only the "Unable to mount database" message. What's causing this? Has anyone experienced the same thing and solved the problem?
thomas_de_pomas | Monday, Mar 2
Er, dang - I feel like a fool; after the so-manieth attempt at restarting and re-logging in, I'm actually online now. Don't know what changed, but it works. Try restarting the program a couple of minutes after you've shut it down - that seems to be approximately what has worked for me.

For those looking for it, Skype 2.6.0.151 (works on G3's):

ISSUE #1: The major hurdle in using Skype to replace a land line telephone is running your Mac on full, even when you are not otherwise using it.
ISSUE #2: I also have a Skype Phone (Fr-33.2 from IPEVO). Either the Fr-33.2 software must restarted, or the USB connection physically re-set ever time the Mac wakes up.
Some action on ISSUE #1 is definitely due. If the Skype programers can also lay the groundwork for 3rd parties to deal with ISSUE #2, that would be nice as well.
