As you may have read from the general blog, Skype has begun a revolutionary transition to technology that will offer you even better call quality. Naturally this affects Skype for Mac, too. We recommend you to upgrade (if you haven't already done so) and tell other users to upgrade along with you. This will ensure you have the best call quality possible. You see, older versions of Skype are using older technology that doesn’t speak as well with the newer stuff. This results in sound quality that, well, doesn’t sound as good. So consider this a time of positive change and download the most recent version of Skype for Mac.

Stephen just wrote on the Skype Gear blog that Futiro Luna, one of the nicest looking Skype handsets out there, is now certified for Mac use.

The Luna is a corded USB handset, meaning that you just install the driver for the phone, click to allow it to use Skype, and then plug the handset straight into the USB. More on the user experience here. Futiro Luna is available in the Skype accessories shop.

Skype for Mac 1.4.0.39 was released yesterday, but was pulled off skype.com a few hours later. We made a mistake during the publishing processes which resulted in a non-working version being released. We're sorry if this caused trouble for anyone - it won't happen again.

We're now working hard on making sure we have a working release out there asap, and will let you know here once it's done. In the meantime, you should use the latest version which can be downloaded from skype.com.

To manage expectations: 1.4.0.39 is an update to the current version 1.4.0.35. It does not include video.

I can only agree with people who have commented here that we should get Skype for Mac 2.0 out quicker. And that we should have more news on Mac. As a matter of fact we do have news for you guys but Nils is so busy driving Mac projects that he has very little time for blogging.

Meanwhile our motivation to get more features for Mac out fast keeps growing. One thing is your comments, but guess who recently bought his first Mac. None other than Niklas Zennström, one of Skype's founders, himself. I bet he's as keen to make video calls on his brand new MacBook Pro than any other Mac user out there. So expect to hear from us soon. (Sorry, no dates yet.)
