Dont worry, nowadays technicians can restore any information from any kind of drive, unless it's "0" point tracker is formatted or HDD is breaked with the baseball "stick". I had a same problem as you do, my whole life was ruined by death of 500 Gb HDD. I had my controller changed and some disk repairing in vacuum. It cost me a 800 $, but ALL the 80 Gb of personal photoes and AVI was restored. MORAL: Keep 'em on DVD.

Hang in there! That is part of the adventure of traveling! Call your Dad or sister or a friend and talk about your feelings. You are not alone, if the Skype availability has taught me one thing these past two years, you are never more than a phone call away. I live in a remote village/town in a developing country as a volunteer at a youth center, and Skpye has saved my sanity. I get to see videos of my nephew and my parents and even my cat with the video chat feature, and that is over a DSL internet line! Set up the voicemail so that friends can leave you happy messages! They are saved so you can listen to them over and over for support! (not sure if you have this I just started reading about your trip) Also and most important think of the Kids you are doing this for, Motivation’s mission is great.

sergej.v, you were right! While they could not fix the computer, the guys at apple san fran did me a massive favour and salvaged all of my files from my lap top and external hard drive for me. So happy and grateful right now

If you get another lappy, you can plug the old one into the new one and replicate your account prety quickly. Just need a firewire cable.
