It's a cracking little phone indeed. I'm really liking it. I'm just getting into the swing of things with Skype but can see the usefulness already.

Didn't quite work the same in Belgium this weekend as the Skype bit wasn't supported and I had to pay roaming fees for data on 3, but that's by the by.

I was really looking into getting a a Skype phone
Shame it is not available anywhere in North America.

so, will it work without wifi? what is so new about it?

I'm already using skype softphone on my desktop. I live in New Zealand. If the skype mobile phone is/would be available here and worked better than the softphone, I would get it. I have found a lot of the time there is to much signal delay as the conversation has to go from New Zealand to Europe and back again. I am also on wireless internet that uses CDMA. (code division multiplexing something or or other) Same as used in cellphone technology. That also adds more latency or delays. The conversation can be very unintelligible between computer to computer or computer to telephone. If that could be overcome then I would get rid of my Woosh phone calling (another VOIP service from my ISP), even though it only costs me NZ$20 per month.
One thing I would have liked to have heard: what the return conversation sounded like from here friend; Zoe.

This is the model I have, pity I don't have a land line possibility but a philips one seems good for that.

Note also pcapewell that I am living in Belgium(2yrs now), and that my absolute primary voice connection to home/aus is skype, and although I cannot confirm to you about the service off of proximus/3 on your roaming mobile I can tell you that delays not an issue at all, note that calling a landline is oz is perfect. Somehow calling mobiles shows not as good..

I have been using the Skype phone since January and I am rather pleased with it. It works great in the urban area, not good in the countryside though. Skype does not work when roaming.

You'll need a data plan with your network for it to save you money.

If you have Iphone, you can download an application called fring, then you'll have skype in your phone.

Hi there to all SKYPE users, I am here in New Zealand, and I have been using Skype since it was available in NZ, and it's SO WONDERFUL. I use ENGIN for VOIP in Australia as Skype kept dropping out when on my desktop. I go computer to computer to a friend in Scotland and that is perfect.

The skype marketing team needs to be more aggressive with their efforts! Pity not much features available from Poland (although its a part of EU now) and India (the 2 countries I travel often with my work)!!!!! Come on guys, speed up! You don't want me to be carrying my laptop every where, to make use of skype do you? I need to get myself a skype phone soon! And please most of your newer versions are for windows only. I have being using the Skype phone here in Ireland on the 3 network since Nov 07 and where as the coverage /Log -in itself can drop it is a great tool to communicate.It is only available in selected countries as i fear its a tool inself for 3 to broaden their market share.
I visit Holland and Germany often and unless 3 set up there i will never be able to use the phone.The major Mobile players in the world will never take skype on their networks because they will lose market share.I do think its a good move from 3 as any skype lover like myself have now moved to the 3 network and i can communicate on my mobile for free to a lot of friends around the world.I think its a 2 way process for 3 and Skype as both are getting good exposure when they are growing.3 will enhance and keep their share in existing countries but i would like to know if and when they will be moving into new countries.
My opinion is if your in a country with the 3 network then go for a skype mobile (cost is pay as you go (10 euro top up) and usually free with bill pay) and you will be amazed to be connected to Skype on the move.When the sun shines make hay.

Skype needs to give us more information on which countries does not support its skype phone. This is important as mobilephones are now taken by most people when they travel and having to buy a sim card at their destination to make local and international is quite inconvenient. Therefore will a mini laptop do just the job with an interet connection at the destination country?

Thanks to my 3 Skypephone, skype-to-go, and US and Canada unlimited calling, me and my girlfriend no longer have to be restrained to computers in order to keep in touch. I can call her mobile, or house, or her skype pretty easily while I am on the move, so our relationship can stay strong despite not seeing eachother for a long time and the troublesome distance.

I have bought 4 of these 3 Skypephones, 2 black and 2 white, nice and small, nice and cheap. I liked them for around 4 months....
Until i got bored of not having Skypeout or Skypein on them!.

So, I bought a Nokia N95 8GB, and downloaded Skype mobile BETA and I'm much happier with that, it's a far better phone obviously, and Skypein and Skypeout work on it. I'm using it with Skype Unlimited World.
So i can phone 34 countires on my Nokia N95 8GB for free and also have 3 Skypein numbers. Cool

I gave one of my 3 Skypephones to my mother to keep in contact, the other three are still in the box!.

I'm very confused! Bought a 3 Skype phone in the UK; worked very well all the while there was 3 network coverage (obviously). Very Pleased! Sent it to my daughter in Australia so that she could Skype me on my PC. It didn't work. She was advised by 3 in Oz to get it unlocked (£15 admin fee) and then buy a local SIM (£10). Then it would work. It didn't! Any views? I thought the idea was that I could buy the phone and then use it anywhere in the world and if Skype was available then use that. Which bit of small print have I missed?

Okay im also having a problem well i would like to know Is that me and my girlfriend purchased these phones as we thought it was a great idea and was very cheap and we like the phones in general, So my question is that since im moving to Australia Cairns North Queensland will Skype work the same way it does over in the UK will i be able to just click on skype and call her for free? Does anyone know specfically if it works in that part of Australia because it would be ideal and thats what the main reason why we bought these. Please someone help? Unfortunately making FREE Skype calls anywhere in the world as said in the video is far away from being true. You have to pay massive roaming charges when you use your Skype phone overseas. And even in your home country you have to pay massive national roaming charges when you are not in the 3G zone of your provider, e.g. in Australia you have to pay more than AUD 1.00 for every 10 KB, and 3G zones are only available in major cities. So, I wouldn't call it FREE calls anywhere in the world, at all. The 3G Skypephone is nothing more than a good toy but I would not recommend it for long chats with your pals when you are traveling.

I agree with Martin my daughter and I both bought Skype phones prior to her going to New Zealand and then Australia. After numerous visits to 3 shops in England all saying calls are free we have yet to get any call free. I think sales advisers need to stop selling this phone in this way
