All aboard the Skype bus...

I mentioned earlier that there had been sitings of a Skype bus travelling the length and breadth of Spain, and we now have a positive sighting, in the Millionaire's paradise of Marbella.
Skypegear can only wonder if Marbella's resident celebrities use Skype, but it is certainly easy to imagine that Sean Connery might be Skyping Antonio Banderas to see whether he fancies a quick snifter aboard his luxury yacht of an evening. Sean, if you're reading this, Skype me up and we can organise an interview on the poop deck.
On board the bus is a bevvy of Skype hardware from the likes of Plantronics, Philips and Hewlett Packard, and rumour has it that the gang are offering free calls on board. You can see the plans above, but the first person send a photo of the bus in Spain via Skype or to skypegear@skype.com will win a cool Skype phone!
Alberto Lorente, head of Skype in Spain and Portugal, explained a little more about why the Skype bus is doing the rounds:
“We want people to see how easy Skype is to use. While Skype to Skype calls are completely free, we want to show how cost effective it is to keep in touch with family and friends all over the world who may not have access to a computer.”
Suffice to say that Skype isn't just tilting at windmills at Spain...in February there were 12.6m Skype users in Spain and there were more being added at the rate of 135,000 per month. This is a huge area for Skype and hopefully efforts like this bus and the retail promotions Skype is undertaking with partners will pay dividends.
