Gennum's nxZEN headset: unpronounceable but powerful
By

What the nxZen VoIP headset lacks in vowels, it certainly seems to make up for in performance. Ontario-based manufacturer Gennum's first Skype-certified cordless headset works via a USB adapter, and contains a number of features designed to make a really clear, crisp Skype calling experience.
According to the release, the nxZEN has a number of features which have been included to tackle the issues of call quality which I for one have noticed with numerous previous bluetooth headsets. These include a dual microphone array, which means that the microphone will monitor two individual points in space, and a built in customised DSP in the headset designed to filter out background noise and prioritise noise close to the headset (ie coming from your mouth).
Available now in the US and priced at somewhere around $130-150, the nxZEN is designed to pair with up to three bluetooth devices, meaning that not only can you use this with Skype, you can also switch easily to use it with your mobile phone, for example. It also offers features such as voice dialling, last number re-dial, call waiting, call mute, and call transfer.
Legit reviews got their hands on one yesterday and their incredibly comprehensive review comes with a pretty categorical conclusion: "You will not find a better noise-canceling Bluetooth headset on the market today. Period." The chaps over at Gadgetnutz concur, concluding that "you just can’t beat this package". As we say here in London: 'Nuff said. Just don't wear it out too much in public...

Recently purchased the multi purpose headset after reading the Legit review. This one is the New Sherriff In Town. Awesome Skype performance! Just do not understand why you have not stocked it yet Mr Skype I think most users would appreciate the functionality and it in my view improves the Voice Quality. See Legit review on the evoQ from Qstik.

Forgot to state that this is after the Gennum review - think they were embarrassed that days after the Gennum they find the New Kid on the block.

Up until this review, we had considered the Gennum nXZEN Bluetooth headset as the head of class when it came to noise cancellation. Well, there is a new sheriff in town that has unseated the reigning champion. The noise cancellation of Qstik’s EVOQ is second to none. EVOQ’s combination of noise cancellation echo cancellation, and automatic volume control make this device a must-have for anyone concerned about a noisy environment.
