Following on from yesterday's news regarding availability of the Philips VOIP841 and DUALPhone 3088 from RTX, news reaches Skypegear that the Netgear Skype wifi phone is now available in India.
India is obviously a big market for Skype, and apparently now Indian Skypers will be able to talk wirelessly via the Netgear phone.
For those not familiar with the handset, it gives pretty full access to Skype, allowing you to make calls both Skype to Skype (for free) or via SkypeOut to normal telephone numbers. You can also get your Skype Voicemail from the handset, as well as search for Skype buddies, check users' profiles and set your Skype status. It can be used on any wifi network or hotspot that doesn't require browser-based authentication.
The Netgear wifi phone will be available from all 48 branches of retailer Rashi in India at a price of Rs16,900 (£192/$378/E285).
In addition to the Indian announcement, German hotspot provider Hotspot-Zone have announced the phone will be compatible with their network of mainly hotel-based hotspots, increasing the footprint of this phone in the area.
