So you set up your company a few years back, invested in a whole PBX infrastructure, state-of-the-art phones, switchboards, basically the whole nine yards. And then, just as you starting depreciating all that expensive kit, along came internet telephony with its cheap calls, low overheads, integration with chat, and general Web 2.0 loveliness. What to do?
Well, VoSky are a company who have already built a reputation allowing home users to use existing kit to make Skype calls. So it is a natural extension for them to use this expertise to put together a Skype PBX gateway which offers exactly the same benefits (plus a whole lot more) to larger companies. Fast forward to yesterday's announcement of a Skype-Vosky co-branded piece of kit available in the UK & Ireland initially which does just this, providing a one-stop Skype shop for any company looking to use Skype.
Just by hitting a pre-set number before dialling (say for example '8'), an employee's calls will be routed via Skype, meaning no more expensive long-distance calling. The benefits of Skyping up a company in this way are myriad. VoSky's website touches on a few, such as the ability to allow customers to call in via Skype, and for enterprises to add Skype calling buttons to their websites, etc. Also worth noting are the ability to enable completely free Skype-to-Skype intra-company calls between regional offices, and to route mobile calls through Skype to save on long distance or international calls using your phone's inclusive network minutes.
There are two different types of PBX gateway in the range, the 9040 which offers "trunk side" connectivity tot he PBX, and the 9140 which offers what's known as "extension side" connectivity, which means that you can dial an internal extension number, even it it is on the other side of the planet in another regional office, and you'll get put through via Skype. Nice!
Skypegear would love to hear from any companies using Skype already, no matter how big or small. Email skypegear@skype.net and any we write up will receive a suitably Skype-branded prize in return!
More details on availability as I get them. Check out the VoSky website for very comprehensive details, including an excellent FAQ.
