Another DUALPhone 3088 Firmware update now available: v115

By My status Stephen Pinches on May 9, 2007 in Cordless phones, RTX, Skype hardware tips.

So I use the DUALPhone 3088 as my regular home phone, and I picked up the handset today and there was a screen telling me new software was available. We've already had a couple of updates from RTX, the Danish makers of the DUALPhone 3088, so I was happy to see that they keep on working to improve their product.

According to this release note, the main improvements in v115 are:

  • Some fixes to the phone's ability to reconnect when the signal from the router or basestation is lost
  • Improved caller ID performance and phonebook lookup
  • Improved audio performance

I installed the update with absolutely no problems, and it took about 20 minutes in total. So far it's difficult to notice any improvement, but I have noticed a couple of occasions when the 3088 has made a bit of a meal of reconnecting after my slightly dodgy cable internet connection has dropped.

The important thing to remember, as with any firmware upgrade, is DON'T SWITCH THE PHONE OFF while the firmware is updating unless you absolutely have to! This can be really bad news for a phone (I should know - I did it with my last Windows Smartphone!). As RTX say:

If your phone displays “Downloading” for more than 20 minutes, re-power base and handset, sign out from Skype and try updating again. DO NOT remove power from base if display shows “Updating handset” or “Updating base”.

If you do have any problems with the update, check out the troubleshooting instructions here.

I've been using the USB dualphone for a while, and recently bought a 3088 phone to replace it. I can't make the 3088 phone work with my webcam. Do you know any way to make it work?
Thanks,
Manpreet.

Hello,
I should like to buy the dualphone 3088 but I don't have an analogic classical phone line. Please, could't you tell me if this phone can be OK only with an ethernet line ?
Thank you very much for your message,
Lilia

The 3088 has a problem with DTMF tones - they don't work. I've spoken to RTX and they say it's a bug in the embedded Skype application provided to them by Skype and apparently it affects all embedded Skype handsets in the same way. A future firmware upgrade will solve this - but no timescale is given (Version 210 is the latest).

Multiple numbers per contact is still not supported on Dualphone 3088.
Latest skype versions do support it.
To bypass it you need to multiply contacts .... and then, quickly reach its contact quantity (or memory) limit.
So cool device, so frustrating limits

Any news about anyother PC-less device that already support Multiple numbers per contact?
