Skype To Go: call internationally from your mobile at low SkypeOut rates

Big announcement from Skypeland today: if you have Skype Pro (available in these countries), now you have a new feature--the ability to call internationally from your mobile using your SkypeOut credit. Skype calling on the mobile you have now? How does it work? Read on.

Be aware it's not a full implementation of Skype. If you subscribe to Skype Pro, you can now get a Skype To Go 'local' number you can call that will forward to an international number you specify (and be charged the SkypeOut rate to that international number). Basically, it's a way to use your "free" mobile minutes (as in, the minutes included in your pay monthly plan) to call someone internationally (one Skype To Go number can call one international number) at the same SkypeOut price you'd pay if you called from your computer or a Skype device.

This is great news for me: I'm in London but my parents live in the US. Now I can set up a UK number that I can call from my mobile wherever I am (that will just use my regular pay monthly minutes) that will call my parents' house and it will only cost me pennies in SkypeOut credit. Very exciting, especially with Father's Day coming up.

Gear aficionados take note: if you don't have Skype Pro yet and are thinking about getting it, a discount on Skype hardware is included with your new subscription.

Also be aware that Skype to Go is still being rolled out, and it isn't available in all Skype Pro countries yet. It's currently in Australia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Hong Kong, Japan, Poland, Sweden, UK and the US. Check out the official information page here.

It still is really expensive. I think Skype rates have been out dated and needs to be reviewed. I can get charged 56 cents to call to a mobile in New Zealand. That's the same rate or more expensive than the rate my local card will offer me.

I wish I was being charged to call the local number with Skype To Go.

This is great with me in the US and my Mum and many of my friends in the UK.

One question - is it possible to add more Skype-to-Go numbers - I'd happily pay for a couple more, (and take them even happier at no cost).
