Danish Award for RTX DUALphone 3088
By
Andrew Brennan on November 23, 2007 in Awards, Cordless phones, RTX.
RTX has been making cordless phones that combine Skype and landline calls for quite a while now. Today the company has a new feather for its cap: its DUALphone 3088 has won the Danish Product Award 2007 from Ingeniøren, a Danish weekly newspaper that specializes in engineering topics. The award goes to "the very best Danish technological innovations and products developed for the worldwide market," so it's quite cool that a Skype product was chosen.
The DUALphone 3088, which incidentally we reviewed on the blog exactly one year ago today, is a cordless Skype phone that lets you make Skype calls and landline calls from the same handset without the need for a computer running, because the DUALphone's base station plugs directly into your router. It also has (one of my favorite things) automatic firmware updates, so the latest features and bug fixes get installed to the phone automatically.
To learn more about the award, check out the press release on RTX's website here (or if you can read Danish, See Ingeniøren's site here). The DUALphone 3088 is also available at the Skype shop, for £85 in the UK or €129 in the rest of Europe.

I have had a "funny" answer from RTX client support service, so here it goes:Thank you for contacting Dualphone support.
Unfortunately RTX Dualphone does not have any service centres and all problems that occurs in the warranty period are solved by replacement of the non-working unit. Therefore we are not able to recommend you any particular service centre.
Best regards
Dualphone support
Does it mean that after the guaranty period the manufacturer doesn't have any responsability in repairing its product? Is this planned obsolescence plus a rip off?
Thank you

Two things I want to point out:
- As with previous Dualphone, the ring tones are both very meager - at least 3-5 years behind what is now available - and the maximum volume of these ring tones is still way too low.
- I received the Dualphone with two British plugs and had to buy two adapters separately. Very bad to have that happen.
- Sound quality is good; menu is good; I did have it 'conk out' once after 24 hours online; was easily fixed though by replugging power.
This phone is a good improvement on the previous Dualphone but I am hoping for a lot better very soon. Especially the ringer volume issue bugs me.

Just wanted to let you know my experience with Dualphone 3088.
I have had to send back 2 phones ( the 1st set was bought less than a year ago) as, on each occasion, the phones worked for a few weeks/few days and failed. The Dual phone support team could not offer any advice that would help. I have a 3rd replacement phone which worked ok for a month and has developed a fault - blinking base unit ( router OK).This has always been the fault. I shall have to send it back and demand a refund. It is excellent when it works. I shall not be getting another again. I need a skype phone anyway and can anyone advise as to which skype phone they would recommend.

Maybe you problem is related to a combination between your router and the RTX3088 DualPhone.
I started using the Skype phone Philips Voip 841 but have changed to the DualPhone RTX3088 because I got problem with my Philips. I was constantly signed out of Skype without any user action. I have now been using the RTX 3088 for 4 month without any problems.
My RTX 3088 displayed me a message for some weeks ago. The message told me that: "new firware availabe, update now Yes/No?). I updated the phone even though I haven't seen any problems with my RTX3088, but anyway, maybe this new firmware solved some problems.

Had this phone for about a year now - no problems at all

Thank you, lykke67. I did think about incompatibility and tried it with another router. Did not work. The base unit seems faulty. Strange that I should have had this problem with 3 phones. Time to cut my losses, I guess.
