3mobilebuzz Most Expensive Call Competition: Win £500
By
Andrew Brennan on January 25, 2008 in 3 Skypephone, Skype Mobile.

Our friends over at 3mobilebuzz continue to scour the web for great news and reviews of the 3 Skypephone. (I'm still loving mine, by the way--porting my mobile number over to 3 was quite painless and now I'm using my 3 Skypephone exclusively, which is great). Anyways, until the end of this month 3mobilebuzz are running another competition in the UK, this time through Facebook. They're looking for people who have racked up big phone bills from making international calls from their mobiles. The person who made the most expensive call last year is the winner, and gets £500 to pay off the bill. He or she also gets a pair of 3 Skypephones, so calls like that will never have to happen again. (Three runners-up also get a pair of phones.)
All the relevant details (including terms and conditions) are on the Facebook page. Head on over, become a fan and share your story on the wall. There are some great ones on there already...

I would like to gid rid of my phone company and use Skype instead.
What is the least expensive way to connect my existing phone system to Skype?
Is there any inexpensive adapter/modem of some sort that I can plug into a router and plug the other end into a telephone jack that will then service the whole house?
Would it save money (and is it possible) to instead of using an adapter that plugs into a router, to use an adapter that plugs into a linux computer and the other end into a telephone jack that then services the whole house?
Or is there a less expensive way?
Note that since I'm intending to get rid of the phone company I don't need a device the will connect to the phone company and connect to Skype and manage the traffic between the two. (The two devices I've seen both have this feature which increases the cost for a feature I don't need.)
I don't need a phone such as this one, just an adapter to connect to my existing phone system.

The Skype phone from 3 is a good idea in theory, but in practice it doesn't always work well. The interface is not well designed and the phone is difficult to use. And of course, if you do have any problems you will have to endure 3's infamous customer service.
I suspect that running Skype on a more expensive, but properly designed phone might yield decent results. But Skype should be careful about who it allows to use the logo on what.

bryan.a: this referes to your questions.
I think i've found what you're looking for. This is an adapter that acts as a bridge between your PC and a cordless phone. There are some Panasonic 5.8 Ghz Cordless phones that this adapter supports. It has a USB interface for the PC and it works wonders for me.
You can get additional handset for those phones or use the cordless handsets that come with the base to move around the house. The best is that it's one of the cheapest alternatives that i've found. You'll find the product and the list of phones that it supports below.
