Shizzle my Skype

Here's a special post for Aisleyne off Big Brother, on what may be her final day in the house. (She's second favourite to leave, form-watchers; numpty Nikki is the frontrunner.)
Pretend ghetto superstar Aisleyne, who uses phrases like "off the shizzle" and "I ain't no man-teef" without blushing, might agree with ZDNet blogger Russell Shaw that Skype has the potential to be the biggest thing in hip-hop since Grandmaster Flash.
Russ points out that MP3.com's hip-hop page (above) is littered with ads from the likes of Cingular Answer T9ones, but none from Skype. To Russ, this is nothing less than a catastrophic marketing oversight.
Er, why? Well, it seems that hip-hop fans are a caring, sharing bunch. With the emphasis on sharing. The NPD research group recently found that urban music fans are more likely to file-share than devotees of other genres. This could mean that hip-hop fans are young and tech-savvy - they certainly love their pimped mobile gizmos. Or it could just mean that they're quite naughty. That's a debate for another time and, frankly, another blog.
The important bit is that Russell is all a-quiver about Skype's potential as a 21st century musical instrument. He should get himself to the Skype forum and have his say. The 'share music' thread is festooned with links to services like Voice Emotion and TunesUp that claim to "connect people with music over Skype", to which grateful Skypers have responded with numerous smiley faces. Sadly, I can't tell from the expression on their smileys whether they're into Tupac or Turandot.
But not everyone's happy. "All this playing music over voice chat to other people reminds me of Yahoo many years ago," says 'christopher' from Bucks. "You'd always end up with people who just played music all the damn time. Really annoyed me."
