Skype Pro in the UK

By My status Peter Parkes on February 20, 2007 in Skype special offers.

Skype%20Pro

As promised, Skype Pro is here — you can now pay £1.50 a month and get free per minute SkypeOut calls to UK landlines; all you pay is the 3.3p ([or equivalent](http://www.skype.com/products/skypeout/rates/connection_fee.html)) connection fee and you can talk for as long as you like.

If you're really quick, you can get an extra special deal and pay £8 for five whole months, which also includes £4 SkypeOut credit absolutely free.

As a Skype Pro user, you also get various other cool features:

* Free [Skype Voicemail](http://www.skype.com/products/skypevoicemail/) (normally £10 per year)
* £16 discount on SkypeIn numbers
* A £21 discount on a [Philips VoIP 841 cordless phone](http://accessories.skype.com/item?sku=VOIP8411B).
* A £7 discount on an [SMC WiFi phone](http://accessories.skype.com/item?sku=BWSKP100PRO).
* Money off a series of [Skype Extras](https://extras.skype.com/).

As a bonus, you can use your Skype Pro deal wherever you are — if you're in France, you get free calls to French landlines; if you're in Austria, you get free calls to Austrian landlines, and so on.

What's there to wait for? Upgrade to Pro today!

Does it matter from where i'm connecting to my Skype account?

If I'm the UK's resident, and I travel to Lithuania for vacations - can I call to the UK's landlines on the Skype Pro rates?

adomast | Thursday, Feb 22

It does matter where you connect from, I'm afraid.

The key is the 'domestic landline' bit - you get free calls within the country you're in, so long as that country is on the Skype Pro list.

So, if you're in Lithuania, you'll have to pay for your calls back to the UK - don't forget that you'll only pay 1.4p per minute including VAT for these calls, though, so that's still a pretty good deal.

Why is SkypePro more expensive in Pounds than in Euros?

And why is the discount on SkypeIn less in Pounds than in Euros?

And SkypeIn has been increased in price anyway ...

Most UK customers would not select Euros, and would therefore be paying higher tariffs, just as they are for the new connection fee.

aoxx44 | Friday, Feb 23

aoxx44 — it's a question of finding convenient numbers to round up or down to more than anything else. Don't forget that you get comparatively more SkypeOut credit in the UK bundle.

Of course, you're welcome to purchase Skype Pro in Euros; just watch out for currency conversion charges if you don't have a Euro payment card or PayPal balance.

Hi I have had skype now for about 10 months and i think its great, Now skype has brought out skype pro it's just made my life easier. the only thing i would like to see skype do is get more local area number's. I'm just waiting for the next great idea skype comes's up with. Cheers

simonf64852 | Monday, Feb 26

If there are any local areas you'd like to see in particular, just let me know and I'll pass on your request to the people who deal with that sort of thing.

When is Skype going to allow me to transfer my Vonage number to my Skype account? Vonage is starting to suck.

jessewaugh | Monday, Feb 26

jessewaugh - I'm afraid there aren't any plans to make this possible in the immediate future, which is a shame. Maybe it's time to have a change of phone number :)

I just signed up for Skype Pro and have just read that as I have recently moved to Spain and therefore connecting from here, I won't be able to call my relatives in the UK for free... Boo Hoo.Never mind, I'll just have to use this service to call people within Spain. It's got to be cheaper than using the Spanish telephone system, which is outrageously expensive..... Can you confirm if Spain is on the Skype Pro list?

dennypic | Tuesday, Mar 6

I'm afraid Spain isn't on the list - Skype Pro is available in the US, UK, France, Hong Kong, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Poland, Germany, Switzerland, Estonia, Australia, Brazil and Japan at the moment, and we'll be adding more countries to this list over the course of this year.

peterparkes | Thursday, Mar 8

I had to uninstall Skype Pro - problems with my PC - and now I'm trying to find where I can download it and install it again. It looks like I have to sign up all over again to get the Pro package - what can I do? I paid once already!

I am a little confused- it says you get an extra special deal and pay £8 for five whole months, yet it also says the normal cost is £1.50/month which x5= £7.50 ??

martjohnson | Wednesday, Mar 21

The £8 for the first five months includes £4 of SkypeOut credit, so essentially you're paying £4 for Skype Pro.

peterparkes | Wednesday, Mar 21

OK- it looks like the charge is £1.60/month not £1.50 as stated above which explains the £8. It looks like we are getting a raw deal compared to the U.S./Canada as they pay no connection fees with their unlimited call packages (http://www.skype.com/helloagain.html ) and pay only $29.95 a year which is the equivalent of £15 whereas we will have to pay £22.56 per year including VAT and that's excluding connection charges of 3.3p per call.

martjohnson | Saturday, Mar 24

This looked good to me as well, until I pondered the "free per minute" terminology, which put a question mark in my head. Thank you martjohnson for making it clear that we have to pay a connection fee.

It looks like Skype, have caught the Ebay bug of having great headline offers, which are not so good when you look at the small print.

philip456 | Saturday, Apr 7

I'm sorry if it wasn't clear originally. Don't forget that even with with the connection fee, Skype Pro is great value for money, particularly on longer calls.

peterparkes | Tuesday, Apr 10

Does skypepro cover calls to 084/087 numbers? Otherwise, due to the connection fee, it does not seem much cheaper than other packages offering unlimited landline calls for £5 per month.

narendranparth | Tuesday, Apr 10

I signed up just for the huge SkypeIn discounts. A great deal for me!

themacnurse | Friday, Apr 13

Hmm...this seemed like a good deal, assuming that you make calls during the day to landlines.

BT option 1 (the standard call plan) offers a similar service that allows you to talk for upto an hour for a connection fee of 5.5p for weekend/evening calls.

So to make this worth while you make at least 50 minutes of daytime calls, or 68 weekend/evening calls.

2 questions

quite urgent i have them answered. please

1. if i sign up to skype pro for £1.50 per month,
the connection fee per call is roughly 3.3p?
and the calls to landlines within the UK are completely free?

2. how much wud it be to call an 02 mobile phone within the UK? does the connection fee vary aswell?

oh one more

3. so, do the connection fees vary for off-peak calls? during the day? and so on? and the costs of the calls?

thanks

akiracode | Wednesday, Aug 15

The information is that it is free to call UK land lines but most of the credit that came with buying the 5 month sky pro package has disappeared on UK landlines,I need someone to please tell me what is happening.THANKS
